New size/Motorcraft 820 filter

Bought the new Motorcraft 820S filter and placed it next to the older 820.
The difference is note able when side by side.

Will see if it makes a difference on the next oil change.

It did seem easier to install the new one today.

They changed the hight of a few of their filters recently. Whats the approx hight of the new FL-820s?

I changed mine over last oil change and didn't notice a difference.

if i remember right its only a 1/4 inch. the problem with the fl-820s and the markviii is the diameter not the height. they shortened them so they can put one more row on a pallet. its also rumored that wal-mart is getting their own line of motorcraft fl-820s's they will be stocking the fl-820sw, prob made in china or some crap like everything else in the store

They also shortened the motorcraft FL400S also. Ford had a tsb or something stating that they did not reduce the volume flow or filter area, just a reduction of the case. but I have not cut them apart to see yet.
