Hi all, great forum here. I've been reading for some time. I recently decided that a 03 LS8 Premium was the car I wanted (nice price point for a used one right now) and drove 400 miles to pick one up in Georgia. Its been a great ride so far. I have every option except nav in a vivid red/black leather package.
It has 22k on the clock and about 10 months left on the original factory wararnty.

My 9 year old was rolling up his right rear window tonight and it didn't want to make it to the top. Finally did after a few tries and made a loud "POP!" noise. I've read of a lot of problems with the windows but it all seemed to affect the older cars. Is this a problem with the 03 and up as well?

Should I just let the dealer take care of it, or there a better "home remedy"?

Thanks for any help!

Curious what you paid for your ride? If you do not want to share I understand...

Sounds like the window regulator. Your still under warrenty, so it's covered. Take it in before the window rolls down and stays down. If I remember correctly, DIY is around $150 to $200.

Tell them you have heard a popping sound out of the other rear window too. May as well get them both done at the same time...because it's likely to fail too in the future. Stupid plastic rollers anyway.

Well, by the time I get my taxes here in Va paid, I'll be just shy of $18k. I thought it was a pretty good deal for the shape it was in (and low mileage).

Wife wanted to buy a Mazda3 for MORE money. It would have been a new car, but after driving both, the LS is so much more car for the money.

Sounds like you did well :) . Here in So Cal the 2003 6 cylinders are going for more than that (but everything is more money here :().

While you're at the dealer, you might wanna ask about getting the extended warranty. I just picked up my 2003 premium (green on stone) and also got a bumper-to-bumper, zero deductable ESP good through feb 2010 or 75k miles (my car has 32K).

I hope to do just that soon Paul. My wife and kids were hit in a a head on collision in her little Kia Spectra 5 in September, which is why we had to buy another car (the Kia was only 5 months old).

She's been out of work for 6 weeks now so its been time to tighten our belts a bit just to pay for the LS. When everthing gets back to normal I plan on purchasing an extended warranty. I have until August of next year to save my nickles.

The service manager even suggested buying the premium warranty when I brought the LS in.

Well, just for a heads-up, the extended warranty is something they can play games with, but the warranty period starts with the original "in-service" date (date the car was purchased, i guess). I was given the option of 6 years / 75k, 7 years / 75k, or 7 years 100k. The deductables also vary from 0, $50 or $100. I wanted a $0 deductable and was first quoted $1080 for 6 years / 75k and $1920 for 7 tears / 100k. I bargained a little and got 7 years /75k for $300 :D (?!)

From what I remember, the JD Powers ratings are higher for the 2003+ cars than the previous years, so maybe we'll get lucky and not need it.

Wow Paul, you got 7yrs or 75k for only $300?
Did you have some photos of the guy in Vegas or something?:)
Nice job negotiating!

I hope you're right about the 03's and up. What scares me are:
Tranny
Coils
Windows

Those seem to be the problems I continually read about (not so much the tranny, but its an expensive one).
I don't know if the 03 and up coils are the same as the previous ones, but everyone seems to have problems with them eventually.

The finance manager messed up my first deal on the 2000 LS8, so the general manager and I worked out a New deal to give back the LS8 and get the 2003 LS6. This car is a dream :).

The dealer had (3) 2003 LSes: (2) LS-6s and an LS-8. I think the LS-8 was
really loaded up (NAV, etc) and they wouldn't budge too far away from $20K. I bargained for about a week and finally bought my LS 6 for $16800 [+ the $300 for the warranty]. I saw 2 others at other places - 2004 LS6 for $19200 and a 2005 LS8 for $23400 but neither of them had even the moon roof, let alone the heated / cooled seats with memory, adjustable pedals, etc. I DO miss the Message Center that the LS 8 had, though.

I'm guessing maybe they could be more flexible with the warranty on my car 'cause it's the 6 cylinder(?). Seems like the trans and window motors would definitely be warranty items, but the coils, I don't know - maybe a normal maintenance item ? I'll have to check the paperwork when it comes. I'm not sure if my engine even has the coils in the wires. Don't worry too much about the coils - I saw a post here recently where they were being sold for like $30 each and i think only 1 or 2 were really difficult to replace.

I feel good about the warranty, because I've never had a Lincoln (and really wasn't even shopping for one when I bought this one). Although everyone says these cars are expensive to fix and maintain, I've had (2) Jaguars, but the warranty hedges my bets just the same. I was looking for a 2000 to 2002 XJ8, but discovered THOSE cars had REAL engine and trans problems (XJ8 AND XK8). I'd expect an extended warranty on one of those cars to be well over $2000, even after the dickering is done.

I drove the 2000 LS8 (106k miles) for almost 2 weeks and my LS6 seems to have better throttle response, but the gas mileage (so far) is Very Very similar :(. Compared to the 2000 LS8, I have only 25 less HP; compared to your 2003 LS8, i think it's about 50 HP less. But I've just been driving gently and enjoying the car anyway :D .

Strange as it seems, I think i'm just gonna add a back-up alarm, put on a new set of Yokohama AVS dB tires ( it came with a new set of Futuras, which are too hard and noisy for me), and leave it pretty much as-is for now ... maybe an Alpine 5.1 channel stereo next year with a center channel speaker.

Hope you enjoy your car as much as I'm enjoying this one :)

I just got mine back from the dealership for some warranty repair yesterday. I had the real trunk taillight replaced (had some water in in it) I had the 12v/lighter assembly in the console replaced (the door wouldn't stay closed) Had a new piece of weatherstripping installed on the driver door, and a new window regulator put in the rear driver window.

My "other" car is a 1993 ford escort wagon. Now the wagon has been a great, reliable car with 170k on it right now and no signs of stopping, but when I got back in it to go to work after driving the LS for the past few days, I felt like I was in a covered wagon.

I really enjoy the time I get to drive in my LS. I actually look forward to road trips, even ones by myself so I can crank up that nice stereo and play with the SST without getting any nervous family members.

I am going to get a ticket if I'm not careful though. I find myself going 70 in a 55 all the time without realizing it.

If you have factory warranty get it done ASAP. The dealer warranty gives you a free rental. Just dedicate one early morning and take the car in. Tell them everything you want fixed prior till the end of the warranty. Have your kids look for everything too, it's always good to have it checked before the warranty is over. Tell them you get engine noise. Check your chrome vents ( which they replace) and make sure everything is in good shape. I did prior to my warranty voiding and made sure to get everything fixed before I had to come out of pocket for it.
