Gentlemen,

Yes, this is a new fitler from K&N and there seems to be some confusion on what exactally it fits. K&N says Lincoln/Jag/Ford fitment but some 02, 03, and 04+ fitments. They also list the 02 T-Bird 3.9 so I have a sample one coming for me to try. I have an 02LS V8 so I will report back on fitment. If it fits then it will be 00-06 LS V8 fitment. I have spoken to Ken and he will have these on his site soon.

Ok then, never mind the direction this thread took, the K&N site shows the HP-1014 as the filter for the 3.9 V8. I'll be on that filter with the next change thank you very much......

Is there anyone else old enough remember JC Whitney offering a oil filter adapter that took toilet paper rolls for filter.

Yeah! I met a guy who had one on a 1939 Plymouth coupe. Showed me the oil on the dip stick. Looked clean. He said he hadn't changed oil in 13 years - only added oil as he needed it. Then the unscrewed the top to the filter filter chamber, stuck a screwdriver in and partially lifted out the role of TP. This was back in about 1952. Still not sure I believe what I saw.

Hard to beat a lightly scented, embossed oil filter.

Talk about added HP.

I understand the concept behind the k&n air filter versus a paper filter, but what advantage does a k&n oil filter have over the recommended motorcraft filter?

PS- I remember the good ol' days of the JC Whitney catalog. Now it just seems like junk but back then that catalog was full of treasures.

Heavier duty construction in both the metal case and the filter medium, higher flow rates, nut on the end for easier removal, rolled threads to help prevent crossthreading/stripping and they're drilled for those that have the need for safety wiring.
