Need To Vent.

Relay seems to be good...i swapped the the pcm relay with the heated park relay and it still does the same thing.

It still does start sometimes three times in a row...other times i wont start 5 times in a row.

but each time it wont start, the pats light is blinking rapidly and when i see the light solid it turns over right away.

car does stay running as well. I suspect the key is the issue. will have the dealer reprogram the pats along with both keys and if the issue persists then i will go from there.

agreed, the starter SHOULDNT crank if the PATS system doesnt read the right key code, but the light blinking does show that the car thinks that something is wrong but still allowing the car to crank. could be a problem with either the cluster or the PCM.

i thought with ford, it just checked before it allows to crank, and only has control over the starter.

chevs and some chyslers will start the car, then check for the code and cut the fuel if the code is not right.

The manual claims that the PATS will not stop a running engine after the one second mark.
It also claims that it will prevent the starter from activating if the key doesn't read correctly. I do have experience with that, and it did prevent the starter from operating.

So, did you wait for it to stop the rapid flash (takes a little while) and to flash out a two digit code? You need to do this and post the code if you want useful help with this problem.

Ive been searching pats issues and other people have had issues with the key itself.

But it could also be the actual pats module. If the PCM were bad i dont think the car would stay running.

I will post the code in bit.

LOL...now i cant replicate the issue and the car keeps starting fine.

See you wait long enough and it just fixes itself. If the light comes on again just put some electrical tape over it, Homer Simpson style!

LOL.....called a locksmith to see if they can come over here and work with me on a reporgram and having my spare key and fob done.

I wouldn't pay someone to program the remote fobs. That's super simple to do yourself. The procedure's in the owner's manual. Basically, you turn the key on and off and on a few times and then hit buttons on all remotes.

No theyre coming to reprogram and cut the two pats keys.

Locksmith thinks the pcm is bad.

It fried his scanner when he was attempting to reprogram the pats.

Well, that's interesting...
If you don't have a good scan tool, I'd say it's dealer time.

I must admit to being skeptical that you PCM fried his scan tool but still runs the engine (most of the time).

I know because my scangaugeII is obdII and it works fine.

So now im out another $100.

Its alright.

heading to the dealer on thursday with a buddy so i can leave the vehicle there if i need to.

Ill keep this thread updated with what i find out.

Just got car back from dealer.

The issue was the scangauge i installed...somehow it was interfering with the pats system. dealer ran diagnostics and everything passed but some pats error codes came up showing interference.

pats was cleared after the scangauge was uninstalled and all is good.

good to hear man...check out my thread about C-list finds, there are some good 18's you might like
