I just got my new brakes and rotors the other day and today wasn't too crappy of a day so I decided to change all my brake pads and rotors, everything went ok until the last set. When I was removing the lugnuts on the previous tires they were pretty tight, tire shop must have over torqued them when I bought my set of tires a few months ago. So on the last tire one of the lug nugs broke. Its not stripped, its just not moving. Doesn't seem to be catching the threads. Its only spinning. I've no idea how to get it off. Thinking a chizzle and hammer and just buy a new lug nut set.. Not sure if thats the best way to get it off. Any ideas or suggestions would help.

Sometimes, an impact wrench can get a lug off when the stud is turning.

I had this problem too, and I wound up taking it to the dealer and they had to break the stud off and replace it.

I just said :q:q:q:q it and chewed the damn thing off. Gotta get a new stud now. But atleast its off now.

Wow, you got some strong teeth to chew that thing up like that

Lug Nut

Although the lug nut pictured looks like the OEM jacketed type, the local tire guy suggests spraying the open end of the after-market nuts occasionally with WD-40 to avoid seizing. I don't know if this is necessary or even works. Personally, I use anti-seize on lug threads, contrary to some recommendations.

The tire shop I use puts anti-seize on them and torque to 100 ft/lbs. WD-40 is a solvent and evaporates after some time.

Same thing happend to me, broke 4 off the driver side, they snaped at 200lbs, I Hammer the busted ones out and went to auto Zone and played the mix and match game. Rotors, pads, 6 bolts and lugs, it took less than 4 hours for the front only, half the time was spent driving between auto parts stores. You might as well paint the calipers while you are at it.

Ya, I was wanting to paint them, but its freezing balls here. Damn rotors/brake job took me almost 9 hours. About 5 hours trying to get that lug nut off. The stud was stripped. I had my finals today so I needed my car to get to class. I stayed up till 1:30 putting the last rotor and pad on. Temp last night was around -5. I think the paint may bubble. I bought one of those universal caliper tools before, the ones that look like a cube.. POS! So I just rented one at autozone.

WOW. Cut up that rim pretty nicely.

I have never seen any one do anything tha stupid.

My neighbor is dumber. He came over last week asking to borrow my battery charger, help your self, its in the garage. An hour later I here some F-ck words so I look over the fence. The Rocket Scientist has his cell phone battery in a vice with the BC clamps attached and hes turning the charger on and off. Yes the battery did not make it.
