Hey guys. My aftermarket HID retrofit into stock HID housings works alright, but I can tell (and already knew) the focal point of the bulb is not correct for the housing which is causing a less than perfect beam pattern

So, I just want to get the bulb positioned the same as the factory bulbs in an effort to best match the focal point for proper beam pattern.

Can anyone with a factory HID bulb (regardless of condition) get a measurement from the base/mounting flange (headlamp side/bottom) of the 9500 HID bulb to the approximate center of the arc tube/envelope?
Thus far I've found plenty of pictures which gave me a general idea, but this needs a little more precision than that lol
I'd really appreciate it! :)

PM Mafioso... he has a kit that retains the exact factory focal point with new aftermarket bulbs...

I'm getting ready to put his set up in my Gen 2.

No body?

I messed around with it some yesterday. By spacing the bulb further back (away) ~.84mm (thickness of the 2 washers on each screw I used) from my original location I got a much more uniform and complete beam pattern. Before the output was intensely bright, but too focused and projected forward - not enough directly in front of the vehicle.
Amazing how such a small change can effect the optics/beam pattern of a complex reflector lamp.
I still would like to know what the OE measurement is so I could get it even better. One of you has to have a blown bulb sitting around!

I'm putting Mafioso's kit in my Mark this weekend hopefully, when I get my stock bulbs out I will measure them for ya...

I have one I can measure when I get a chance, if nobody's posted up by end of this week I'll let you know.

Hey, how are you getting mafioso's kit in your car this weekend? I thought I was just about up on his ass about that.. and assumed he wasn't finished with the kit, or busy, or some crap..

I'm getting the first kit... talked to him about it a long time ago...

I'm also getting no directions with my kit, gonna have to figure out how to hook some wires up myself:eek:

Sorry, Dev has been a bit slow, since I dont have a CNC machine in my living room ( I keep wishing and one day Santa will bring me one.) Got the first 2 sets done, and sent out for testing will update you guys as soon as I have the Gen2 updates.

I have the second kit on the way, should be here tomorrow morning. The first post in this thread is exactly why i went with mafioso and didnt feel like messing with it getting it adjusted correctly.

Sunday afternoon (if i get to it) or wednesday i will be putting it in my gen2. Hopefully brandon puts his in first...so i've got a guinnea pig for the install. If not im on my own and i'll be his guinnea pig :D

Ok, let me know when you have another 1st gen set f/s!

I just started college and I have no expenses (took out a loan for tuition) so I figure I will take some time off and smell the roses or something?

i got a job for you Brandon. :)

Knew that was coming,

poniesviii, I have them ready to go, just sitting at the machine shop, the Gen1 and Gen2 use different mounting depths, so we had to make 2 different sets.

Gen1's are ready and I have the 2 sets of Gen2's out testing so hopefully we get the feedback in the next few days.
