Need input, what do you guys think?

my buddy is looking to buy a 2000 V6 with only 30,000 miles. The car is at a dealership and they want $10,350. It is really clean and with such low miles I dont think that is a bad price, but I would like to know what you guys think.

Carriage top?? :yuck: The ad doesn't mention the convienence package, but it looks like it has rain sensing wipers, which would indicate that it does. Trade-in value is ~$6000, and I can't believe the dealer paid more than $5K for the car. Even with the low miles, I wouldn't go over $8K.

Then again, I'd hold out for a V8. ESPECIALLY one withOUT that stupid carriage (read old man) top!!! I have a V6 and even with a few helpful mods, the car is still underpowered. If you're a grandma/grandpa just looking for a cheap LS, then this one's OK. If you're under 60 and still want to have fun, hold out for a newer, low-mileage V8.

Oh yea, the V6 doesn't get any better mileage than the V8, and you're sacrificing at least 45 hp.

That price is too high for a now seven year old car, regardless of the low miles. When comparing the 00-02 V6 vs. V8, there is a big difference in mileage. Especially if your gonna be heavy on the pedal. The newer '03+ V8 runs more efficiently than the older ones yet i dont get close to the same mileage as my '02 V6. I was consistantly getting 22 mpg in my '02 V6, i am now averaging 18 mpg in my '05 V8. Same exact driving but getting less mileage. It works out to be about 60 miles per tankful. Anyway, back to your friend...i'd tell him to keep looking.

All I know is my 2000 V6 gets no better mileage than my 2006 V8. There are many variables to mileage, but over the same stretch of highway at the same speed, there isn't any difference between my 2 LS'.

Maybe your V6 isnt running at its full potential. I am not using a stretch of highway as a comparison. I have put about 1000 miles now on the V8 and with driving the exact same route it doenst get close to the same mpg. The only way to get over 20 with the V8 is to be on a highway with the cruise set. My V6 averaged atleast 22 mpg on a tankfull of driving, which includes all types of driving conditions.

Maybe your V8 isn't running at its full potential. My '04 V8 averaged between 20 and 22mpg on mixed driving. I haven't bothered to compute the mileage on my '06 yet (I've only filled it up twice, excluding the fill by the dealer), but it's still a brand new engine, so it's not going to be particularly representative.

Trust me, i'm not sweating the difference. I dont pay for my gas so its not an expense that i care too much about. I assume that all LS's have the same size gas tank. My V6 got about 50-60 miles more on a tankful than the new V8. Thats about a $9 difference. Its not a big difference but its still a notable difference. I mean seriously, is anyone really going to dispute that the same car with a V6 will get better mileage than a V8?

Well, 10k+ is too much for that car.
Miles or not,
Here are the points I would make with the dealer.

1. Its seven years old.
2. It has that stupid carriage roof, which I would have to strip off and pay someone to refinish the roof of the car, which would basically require and entire respray.
3. It is a V6, automatic and as far as I can tell it is not even a SST model, so it is not very desireable in any aspect.

Offer the dealer 5000 and be very prepared to walk away.
