I have a 1994 Mark viii and I am looking at picking up a 1998 Grand Marquis trans with 28,000 miles on it. My question is this, I know I have to re-pin the connectors to change it over, but is there any other major obstacles I will face installing the 98 in my 94? I have looked over the article at TCCOA but cannot find anything specific about the Marquis 4rw70. Swapping solenoids is no problem if that is what it takes, I just want to make sure I am not going to be getting into more than that. Thanks!

Just a follow up. I have received the Marquis transmission and completed the changes required. Cut the housing from around the TCC solenoid electrical connection and installed the 94 TCC solenoid in the 98 trans. Had to install the old linkage for the floor mount shifter instead of the column shift. Remember to remove the small roll pin to get the shift shaft to release from the trans housing. The shaft will wiggle out of the seal, should not have to replace the seal? The re-pinning was not too bad if you know how to disassemble the connector. Remove the back cover of the 93-97 connector by lifting the small tabs. Use a small screwdriver to pry the rubber insulation plug out of the back, be carefull not to nick or damage the wires. Remove the small rubber seal from the inside of the connector and then lift the small black plastic locking tab from the inside front of the plug. The black tab locks the pins in place. Once you have that off, use a tiny screwdriver to release the tiny white plastics tabs that retain each of the pins in place. I also had to drill a small hole in the back connector cap for the wire connected to pin #4 because there is no pin position #4 on the 94. connector. It will be completely installed tomorrow. More to follow.

So far so good. Took it out today after the install and it runs fine. The problem now is the speedometer is off by 10 mph high @ 75 mph. I remember seeing some threads about changing the speedo gear? Where is it, what do I need to change it over from the 98 Marquis trans to my 1994 Mk 8? THANKS!

I installed a purple gear instead of the green gear that was in there. The green is a 17 tooth, the purple is a 21 tooth. What I really need is a 19 tooth. Found a great calculator for the gear and other sizing data here

Found the gear on e-bay for $9 shipped!
