Can you put a factory navigation in a ls 6 2005 even though it did not come factory. Is it going to be tough to do? What all does it involve!!!:shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

That one has to do with aftermarket navy I want to put an oem in mine if possible...

don't bother. others have researched and a ton of $$$ just for the wiring harnesses. I have the factory nav and can tell you there are MUCH better aftermarket kits out there for a lot less $$$ (eclipse, pioneer)

Well, perhaps he's like me and would never put an aftermarket kit in his car... regardless of how much cheaper/better it was.

And why would that be? The aftermarket units go right in and you can always switch back. There are a few folks that covered this before and it seemed you were getting into new car $$$ to get the factory nav in a non-equipped car.

And I'm one who has done all the research. Believe me....beaups speaks the truth. Seriously, it would damn near be cheaper to trade the car on one that has Nav then try and put the system together...AND HAVE IT OPERATE LIKE THE FACTORY INSTALLATION.

I can get the wiring harness for it and the navy system for about 800.00 with the cds. but what else would I have to have???

I really don't want a aftermarket system I would like to stay factory with that but I would like to do it myself. If It can be done for less than a thousand I would do it. But I guess if it is more than that I would go afermarket...

haha... I'm thinking the OEM setup would cost at least 3 grand, but I'm not sure... It's definitely more than $1,000 though. But, if you're installing it yourself, who knows?

why would u get CD's and such? u can get the pioneer navi system that doesnt require those cd's for less than 1000 installed.. plus u get so many more options.. Ipod, DVD, rear view cam. etc.. if ur going to spend money on something, why not get something with the most options?

but it's not factory:confused:  :( !! I myself would rather have the factory unit if it was possible.. but the dealer says its not possible does anyone know why?? Someone has surely done it, I know it isn't the top of the line or does't have all the options the after market ones I have done my homework there but would just rather have the factory one in there:cool:

Your dealer said it wasn't possible? WTF?

And yeah, the aftermarket ones might have all those features, but as far as looks are concerned, nothing compares to OEM.

That's what I said

I can tell you that the pcm is involved in operation too. When I took my unit in to the pioneer service center to get reflashed they had a bench setup with all the harnesses and a car PCM. there might be a chance that the pcm varies between nav/non nav cars. Also, you'll need the new rear view mirror (with the mic, VERY expensive) and also new steering wheel controls. Maybe the clockspring is different too?

so what do you think the best system for your money is?? That would mean that I would lose 6 disc in dash changer... :( . That sucks !!!

The other part of the equation is the THX system. It is very different than the stock system.

You would need at least:

NAV head unit
Wiring harness
DVD "player"
DVD
GPS antenna
Rear view mirror w/microphone

There are probably more items that I'm missing.

As for aftermarket, the one in the link above looks pretty good. I believe the only thing you may lose is the voice commands. The aftermarket units may even have them, I don't know.

oops almost forgot!!!! Different amplifiers IIRC. There's a LARGE amp in my trunk on the left behind the carpet for the THX/Nav setup....

I'm trying to help. I have this system. Settled for black on black (HATE the LS black interior) because I wanted the Nav so bad. There are aftermarket units that are so much better. If I could do it over again, I'd have gotten a different LS....

I see. I probably doubt I'll get Navigation though, unless I wind up going to Texas State, then it'd come in handy when driving through San Marcos and Austin, but anyway... being as anal as I am, I'd probably freak out if/when someone touches the LCD and gets fingerprints on it. :(

And don't feel bad, I had to settle for the Dove interior (I would've rather had Camel), since that was the only car VB had in Ceramic White Pearlescent. It's quite plain without the woodgrain accents.

they did a hell of a job on the lcd, it really doesn't get fingerprints:) I do use it all the time. I'm so used to it if I didn't use it I'd probably miss my exit driving to work:)
