is it possible to upgrade my cd changer to the nav system radio? what would i need to buy if it's possible besides the unit and the reader in the trunk? i guess i'll need antenna's?

i thought about getting an aftermarket radio, but i wanted to keep the stock look...

This questions has been asked a lot. I don't have any personal experience really, but most say that it's much easier and less expensive going aftermarket - plus the stock nav isn't exactly the best and at this point quite outdated.

It would not be plug and play, as stated above you are better off with an after market.

Things you need at a minimum to add factory navigation are:
Nav head unit
Nav DVD drive unit
Sub-woofer amp
Four channel amp
Multiple wiring harnesses
GPS antenna

If you want voice control (factory systems have this) add:
Auto dimming mirror with factory microphone (used only on nav equipped cars)

If you want the steering wheel buttons to be labeled and work correctly add:
nav option steering wheel button assembly

If you want the full THX sound add:
THX door speakers (4) and subwoofers (2)

Advantages to factory nav (compared to AVIC):
Reliable (except for CD changer)
Fast boot up
Always knows where car is pointed even if not moving, or moving slowly
Easy to use interface with big touch buttons, few menu levels to traverse

Advantages to aftermarket nav:
Works with iPODs, MP3s, USB, ...
Much easier to install
Cheaper for newer maps
Some can be customized

Go aftermarket. If it didn't come with it, it wont be worth it cost wise and time to install the thx nav system. Go with a good aftermarket nav and get the benzel to go with it.

alax7- any suggestions? where can i get a bezel? just ask the people i buy from?

joegr, thanks. sounds like it going to cost close to a grand with all the labor. i saw the hook up in my trunk the other day and i thought maybe it can be done at a reasonable price.

thanks. so they look like they'll match the existing colour.

I just bought the top line pioneer navi on sale, plus rebate (theres a 200 dollar rebate out right now for the next few weeks or so). I am debating whether to replace my THX navi or not. The pioneer doesn't even come with the bluetooth module, I have to buy that separately.

Well, I guess everything is debatable, but I think that Pioneer claims that the Z110BT is the top of the line Pioneer Navigation. It has built-in bluetooth.

Woops. That's the one I have. That's the exact one I ordered. I gotta pay more attention to stuff that I shell out money for. For some reason I thought it needs the module. Sharp eye...
