I was handed the keys to the POS 2000 LS Sport yesterday. It is now my special needs baby. My wife is fed up. After losing the drivers front window a few days ago the gauges and light all went wacky yesterday. ABS, brake , and advance trac lights staying on. There were dashes in all the digital display areas. But it all went away?? Then there is all the problems of the last 2 years (replaced transmission at 92 k, several coil packs, sunroof leaking, overheating) .The car is just way to unpredictable for her to haul clients around in it. But I can use it for my work car. I love the way it drives and runs.........when it is working correctly.

lucky you. I have a friend in the same position, he gave her his LS in mint condition and she returned it back to him all trashed with a blown trans. Not to be prejudice, but women do beat on cars pretty bad.

My wife has a Volvo S60 T5 and I have to clean up every week what she trashes on it during the week. The LS does need TLC, such as not running through huge potholes and such to jar things loose.

Fix it up and enjoy driving it. The LS is the best bang for the buck on the market for a sport luxury car.

Its a 6-year old car with high miles. What do you expect? Any worthy husband would have gotten his wife a new car a long time ago! (j/k) :D

At our house I'm driving the LS and I just got the wife a nice used BMW Z3. She's MUCH more careful with it than she ever was when driving the LS!

yea i`m always tryint o correct my wife about how she treats the ls and even her deville. she drives them hard man.. lol.. alot of women dont understand what it is to pamper cars. they know they drive nice cars but thats all it means. every weekend i have to check both cars to see what she left in them to make sure they stay semi-clean. i cant stress to her anymore of how delicate the ls is. kinda sad due to what its supposed to be but thats just how it is.. she treats it like its her cadillac which is built 10 times better. maybe one day she will take her time with it.

She bought a Nissan Altima 3.5 SE with the sport package. We took it on a 305 mile trip this weekend. It got 31 mpg on the highway. She appears happy "at the moment". Lets face the truth about the LS. It is a pretty car that drives and handles well but the 2000 model is poor excuse for a dependable car. I had a 91 mustang 5.0 for 7 years and 150,000 miles. The only parts that I had to replace were a fuel pump at 110K and an alternater at 120k. The rest was all normal maintenance. I would only recommend an LS to someone I don't like. I could not sell my car to a stranger without feeling guilty. Maybe the LS improved after the first couple of years but I will never buy one again. But I plan on keeping this one till it is completetly used up. Maybe it will last a little longer with me driving it.

Fish, you are right, the 2000 model had more problems that the previous LS models. But keep in mind, in 2000 it was a totally new car, with a new platform (DEW98), new transmission, and new engine. With so many new components, there were bound to be more problems than later years.

Glad you liked the car when you had it, and good luck with the Altima!

my wife has a 95 honda accord that she drives around and the one thing i love about it besides the gas mileage is that if something breaks, it usually cost under $100. she's only drove my LS 3 times for the last year i've had it and each time i'm clenching my teeth and checking all around....not to be a sexists A$$hole....BUT WOMEN CAN NOT DRIVE!!!!

our 2000 LS has had only two problems, which I consider good since it now has over 100,000 miles on it. The valve cover gaskets which was covered under warranty and the driver's side interior door handle broke. Its been a good car, the engine stills runs very smooth, the car handles great, the leather still looks very close to new (which is good considering its 7 years old), no leaks, and it get fairly good gas mileage for a V8. Its made it through 7 years and 100,000 miles, thats a good car to me. The only thing on this car that worries me is the tranny. It makes a little bit of noise but i have heard the Jags make the noise and the tech said it was normal. I am thinking about another 50k to 60k miles and then the tranny will need to be rebuilt. The engine I think will run for another 100k no problem. Sorry to hear about all the problems with yours. I wouldn't say its the norm though.

Mine has been totally dependable. Aside from the rear view mirror, every repair has been under warranty and none of those problems resulted in it not getting me from point A to B. The only issues that the 2000 had vs. later model years were faulty window regulators, leaky valve cover gaskets that somtimes resulted in fouled coils, foggy headlight lenses and that mysterious front end clunk. Not perfect, but given the look, performance and the warranty; it's been well worth it for me.

Possibly if the previuos owner had been more attentive to the car I may have not had so many problems. I forgot about the valve cover gaskets that I replaced. Our LS has left us stranded twice. Don't get me wrong. I love the looks of the car and the way it drives. But I would not call it a great car. I will be keeping mine a while longer just because of the fun factor.
