For those who have tunings or XCAL what is the highest MPG you can get or do get. Thanks. Im wondering if it would be worth getting to increase my gas mileage?

I have my tunes for performance, making a noticeable difference with little to no difference in mpg, maybe +1, or +2 mpg.

oh...are there specific tunings for increasing MPG that can give a better gain than just the 1 to 2 MPG increase?

You want to talk to this member: tmcphail
I'm sure he can answer that for you, since he makes Xcal tunes for the LS and all.

I have one tune for mileage and one for performance and I can honestly say that I've never bothered to load the one for better mileage. :D

I don't have any tunes for better mileage specifically. The performace tunes I run have always improved mileage, about 2-3mpg, honestly.

if you tune your car right..... it'll give you the most performance with improved milage...... think about it this way, your car will be more efficient... doesnt have to work as hard, saves on gas

A good performance tune will give you a little bit better mileage also if you don't have a lead foot due to the new performance. Some see between 1-3 mpg depending on the condition of the car, driving habits and driving conditions.

The claims of a custom tune making your car a gas mileage monster are plain BS. AFR's are AFR's are AFR's. There is only so much you can do with AFR's on a N/A high compression vehicle like the LS before you cross over into the area where you encounter a much higher chance of pre-ignition without any better results.

Performance tunes strive to make the car a more efficient system. Through doing this most performance tunes will basically offer more or less a similar amount of mileage increase than a "gas mileage" tune will do.

If you want more MPG out of your car the best way to do it is change driving habits. I can drive my wife's 01 JGC with the 4.7 V8 to 23-25 mpg on average if I change my driving habits just a bit while still driving somewhat normal.

you can also unplug two coils.... :shifty:

I started another thread on here about mpg. Someone suggested that I put a new fuel filter on the car. I was getting 15.5 mpg, as I do mostly city driving. Well, took the car in for the 30k maintenance service. Put new fuel filter on, new air filters, had the transmission flushed, ect. General service basically. Well I have noticed my mpg up to 17.5 mpg since the above service. 2 mpg may not be huge, but with the price of gas these days, I am most happy with it!!!

Ran 100 octane the other day, got 27 mpg on freeway, up from 24. Not to shabby for the v-8. Calculated the cost and to run the 100, it would only cost be 6 more dollars per tank, or roughly .36 per 60 mile trip.

Needless to say, the 100 is unleaded and very expensive. I have a friend who races for Subaru, so he sells me some on the side for 5/gal. Not sure how he would feel if I started buying at 18 gals a shot. :)
