So i had the front brakes done not too long ago at the dealer and i went with the less expensive motorcraft pads, also had new rotors put on (motorcraft). AWEFUL !!!! Every single braking event the brakes squeal. Also, any chance the rear pads have a wear indicator?

You say, "Squeal like a cheap whore..." like its a bad thing.

You're rear pads ought to have them, and I would take it back, right away. Sounds like it needs anti-squeak juice or anti rattle clips on the pads and maybe the slider pins neeed lubed too.

Anyone found pads that don't coat the wheels in brake dust like the factory pads do?

The best pads for the money and peformance with no brake dust are the Bosch Ceramic pads, AWESOME! Look them up to see if you can buy them where you live.

Or the Akebono ProACT ULTRA PREMIUM CERAMIC PADS, 100% ASBESTOS FREE and power slot rotors to match.

Agree, the Akebono's are very good to with no dust.

I dont think $189 for a brake job at a dealer falls under "you get what you pay for". Maybe a quickie lube, but not a dealer. And i'm not really questioning the work done, just the fact that a motorcraft brake pad squeals every time i touch the brake. On my Intrepid i put Pep Boys brand of ceramic pads and they dont make a peep. And they were alot cheaper. I guess i am to assume motorcraft is junk?

I have had bad luck on other vehicles with "store brand" pads. I have Pep Boys Ceramics on my 2004 and they squeeal EVERY time I touch the brakes for as long as I touch them. I sound like one of those commuter trains when I stop. One advantage is they don't put out any dust.

To be fair, I did not resurface the rotor so it could be the surface is not adequate for these pads.

I just did a brake job on my wife's Mercury van and used Rabestos Ceramics and it is beautiful. I have never had a problem with Raybestos and I have been doing my own brakes since 1975. If I have problems with noise it is usually store brands or off brands.

I'm probably going to try the Raybestos pads when I finally have enough. The dealer mechanic said to use Lincoln OEM pads to prevent squeel, maybe in this case he is right.

I have used the antisqueel blue goo on all my disc brakes since about 1980. I have never been convinced that it works except for the first few thousand miles, unless I used factory or Raybestos pads, then there is no squeel. I have noticed a few times the blue goo, either burns off or becomes brittle and then no longer locks the pad in place to prevent squeel.

I have read that high temp brake grease on the backing steels is better. So I plan to start using that.

Just my experience.

I put on Baer DecelaRotors and EBC "Red Stuff" Pads. At first they squealed like a stuck pig. But after about 500-700 miles they are quiet as a church mouse now and very little dusting!! I HIGHLY recommend them. The stopping power is awsome.:D

Ok, I know from reading that enough people here on this site has changed thier own brake pads.. Where's the write up w/ pics?

I'd love to do this on my own. I got the maintenance CD, but if there is a lamen's write up on how to do it. I'd love it..

I think the people who take care of the tech section are slackin.. I sent them a how to on changing out the springs to eibachs.. but no reply and not seeing in the tech section..

if any has a write up, could you 1) please post, or 2) pm me so that I can get it... I need to change out my fronts.. and while I'm at it might as well change out the rears/.

I agree, I sent in a nice write up with pics in WORD and ADOBE formats as well as an email with the text of the article and attached the images to the email. It was on how to hardwire a radar detector into the auto-dim mirror over a year ago.

It still hasn't been posted, nor have I received any comments about it. I sent an e-mail asking about it after a month or so and still didn't get a comment back. I have since quit trying....

Hi Guys

Just to be sure I will not sell the "motorcraft" pads to any of my customers. Yes they do cost (LVC)$42.35 compared to the "OE" brown box at $80.72 but you will not have the noise or dust when the job is done correctly. Our shop has specials and use them to compete with the brake masters and such. I got lazy and had a shop put rear shoes on my van and they used the cheepys and the noise was scary, so I had them put the real ones on and they are fine now.

So is the motorcraft the $42.35? or the $80.72?

So if your not selling the motorcraft, what brand are you selling now?

The motorcraft is the "VALUE" line. part number YU2Z-2V001-JA $56.47 retail and LVC is $42.35 The OE ford brown box (same as the car was born with from the factory) p/n XW4Z-2001-AH retails for $107.62 and LVC is $80.72. Just like GM delco we have a value line for the shop specials and used car dealers, all dealers carry both. But I hate to sell them and try to convince them that they will cause problems in a short while, noise or a lot of dust. Now of course you know you will not get the OE pads for the brake special of 89.95 or whatever!! they advertise to get you in the door.
