I have a good 28 Spline 8.8 TL carrier from a Cougar XR7. It was pulled with 74,081 miles on the car, and looks to be in very good shape with no broken clutches. I would recommend replacing the TL clutches and upgrading the spring while you have it out of the car, but it would not have to be done. This is a direct bolt in for any year Mark VIII, and will put power to both wheels! $150 and I will take care of the shipping in the US.

Can you explain what spring needs to be upgraded and what to upgrade too? Also what are the typical estimated costs of this spring, clutch plates, and install into the Mark VIII rear-end?

It doesn't have to be upgraded. The stock one will work perfectly fine. The part I am talking about is the "S" shaped thing right in the middle. A lot of guys will install one from a F-150 when they get them rebuilt. It just tightens it up a bit more and makes for a more aggressive lock.

Really, this one looks good, and you could just install it and go. However, anytime you have something used that is a where item, such as brake pads, tires, etc. you might want to have it rebuilt. The cost of the parts is not too much.

The spring is $5-$8 from the dealer, and is totally optional. A FRPP TL rebuild kit which would include all new clutches and such is around $55. Again, probally wouldn't have to, but for the cost, it is in my opinion cheap insurance since the carrier is out already and easy to get to.

As far as cost for installing it, I had my rearend completely rebuilt, TL rebuilt, and a new set of gears installed for $115 labor. (I already had all the parts) That was taking the rear diff out of the car myself and just dropping it off at the shop.
