ok here is my problem. 2004 LS V8 - when i turn my car on and i put in in Reverse or Drive it jerks as if its the transmission messing up  i hope not. anyways i stop at a light and it shakes (idle - is this the same thing? i dont know much about cars lol) if i accelerate normal slow (soft) it drives fine, if i accelerate hard or give it more gas it starts to shake like it wants to die and wont let me go faster unless i hit the gas really really hard then i jerks and picks up speed until i hit 40- 80 mph on the freeway then it starts to shake and jerk again. I went to a shop and they did my diagnostic for free and they said that it came up with a missfire- didnt tell me where it was or what code, just that it would cost $130 to just see what was wrong. so i went to auto zone and they told me to check the spark plugs and coils. I checked the coils and spark plug with this cheap tool that inserts a female end to the spark plug in the motor and the male end you stick it to the coil (boot). supposedly if these worked a light will blink on the tester consistently,it did for all 8. so went to autozone again and took the spark plugs to see if they looked bad enough to change them and they said they didnt exept that they were NGK and preferably i should use motorcross i think? whatever, so then i bought them. i then installed them and still does the same. my dad tells me to check the fuel filter, transmission fluid and coil pack ( i checked to coils and boots for tear and wear and if it had fluids but no sign) but i didnt check the coil pack, how can i check? im guessing the cheap spark plug tester is full of crap and I need HELP please!!!

Probably best to find someone local that you can trust to help you get up to speed.

Yes, the cheap spark tester does *not* reveal the intermittent failure problems of our coils. Give the sticky "Real Owner's Manual" thread a good read. You need to replace one or more coils. It's generally most effective to replace all of them. There are cheap - but somewhat questionable - ones on eBay. Max at Five Star Ford (the "when you need parts..." ad on the right) can give you a decent deal. Rock Auto also sells several brands.

The tranny engagement is likely the solenoid or possibly low fluid. This can cause your transmission to fail if left uncorrected for too long. Again, check out the sticky threads, do some searching, and find someone local to give you a hand.

I also have an 04 LS V8 that had the same problems. I found out that these problems were the coils and the solenoid assembly. Take your LS to a Ford dealership if you have less than 100,000 miles and they will test your coils. If any are found to be bad, they will replace them with new ones and the they will also replace the spark plug that is connected to that coil. There is a Technical Service Bulletin from Ford about these coils going bad and the work to fix them is free as long as at least one of the coils is bad. I have a link below that was given to me by another member here that provides you with information about this TSB. If you take your LS to the dealership, take a copy of this TSB with you so they do not play stupid and try to charge you a whole bunch of money. Maxx at Five Star Ford can give you a rock bottom dealer price for the solenoid assembly. You are going to need about 6 quarts of Mercon V tranny fluid, a new tranny pan gasket, and a new tranny filter.

The first question is how many miles do you have on this LS?

There is an extended factory warranty on the COPs (Coil On Plug). A Ford/Lincoln/Dealership will test and replace all marginal COPs free of charge. (The only catch is that they will charge you a diagnostic fee if none of them fail. You don't have to worry about that, it's clear that at least one is bad.)

The only way to really test the coils is very involved and requires an oscilloscope.

Once you get the coils fixed, you'll find that you still have a transmission problem. The problem is a solenoid valve assembly that needs to be replaced.

I have 2 questions. Who is Miss Fire? and Is she hot?

lol

Wish I had a couple mis-fires then I would have some cash.
This child support is killing me :D

LMFAO.

I hear that's really expensive. But I just saved a bunch of money by switching to birth control.

You can't do anything about it once she's already prego.. Well, anything that's legal anyways.. :shifty:

Alfredo..
Those coils are p/n 2w4z-12029-b listing for $92.56 and cost Reg LVC $54.15. The v/c gaskets are $59.20 each and cost you $44.40 and that includes the "O" rings. Plus shipping. These are ford OE parts not knock offs.
