I searched the treads but all I found was installed amp sounds good. Also lots of full system upgrades. I have a head unit laying around and want to install. I need to know if I should just run the stocks off the head unit or amp them. How much power, max/rms can the stock speakers handle? Head unit and amps have built in crossovers so thats not an issue. Don't want to blow more money on speakers, but I also don't want to rewire the car twice. Thanks. Btw, stocks in a 95 are just 5x7 2 ways right. No upper door tweets either(was thinking of adding them).

So,you don't have the JBL stereo speakers? I Know my JBL speakers in my 96 held up pretty well with my aftermarket head unit and it has a built in amp. You shouldn't have a problem with that.

No JBL, no cd changer. I figure the stocks will hold the power from the built in amp in the headunit. I have 4v pre-outs and would like to use some of my amps, just need to know what the stock speakers can handle. I thought maybe they had some specs on the backs or something. I know somebody has a set laying in a box somewhere.........:(

the stock speakers will hold up ok. But if you plan on putting a aftermarket amp on them they will prob not hold up that well. They are just a paper cone speaker which was never designed to handle alot of power. I would say you could put about 35-40 watts on them and try not to distort them. But i would just try the headunit first and see how that sounds and then go from there.

They will handle a small amp no problem we have done it many times. Try not to put more than 50 watts each on them an do not distort them and you should be good to go man. Good clean power saves speakers. You can distroy speakers easily with cheap crappy power.

Thats cool. I was planning on using a small Alpine 4ch. I think it puts out around 60 rms a ch, so that will be fine. Worst case I keep everything down a little until I get some replacement speakers. I'm still debating getting '96 door panels with the tweeters or mount my own. Just hate the idea of cutting into a perfectly good door panel. Maybe some 2 or 3 way 6x8 with directional tweeters would be ok?

I used four of those to run the headrest speakers in my Fiero. Worked great but now I'm half deaf.:D Killer tweeters.

AMEN!!! Which is why I still use Crossfire and Orion Amps.
and I just aqquired an OLDSKOOL Sound stream Trantula with the spider on the front <3

Wow I haven't seen one of those amps forever... I remember how cool they were when they came out... if I remember it's like 1000W... for like 6 channels or something and they look all crazy... yeah clean sound is the biggest thing you want to watch for... but upgrading the speakers isn't hard and not really that expensive... so it's up to you... I upgraded my speakers cause I blew one right away... actually my gf did... but yeah... that was on the stock HU with a tape adapter running off my ipod.

Class D is for bass only, and yes they are great. As for replacement speakers try a set of components in the doors make plates to install them in the factory locations and you can still aim the tweeter in the direction you want. It also keeps the wave paths close so your staging stays half way in check. LOL.
