Glad I found this forum...

2000 Lincoln LS V8
Ford Dealership says needs new Mass Air Flow sensor and also coils & manifold gaskets.

Any advice / help how to change these and where the best parts&price for these are at.

Also the ball joints are needed changed.

Any idea where to pick up a shop manual. Can't afford to give (and don't want to get ripped off) the dealership $850 for the repairs on the MAF/coils/gaskets and $1000 for the ball joints.

Thanks.

Manifold gaskets? That's unusual. You sure they didn't say valve cover gaskets?

Team ford or 5 star ford will hook you up on parts...

Good luck on the shop manual; best you can do is get a pirated OEM shop manual from e-bay...

Ball joints, you actually order the spindle (for lower) or control arm (for upper). They don't come seperate.

I know it happens... good lord, I've had to do it a few times in my life. It's just not really what I'd call "normal".

Then what I want to know is, if he's got a manifold gasket that needs replacing, why are they also throwing an MAF at it? Generally you'd replace the gasket then determine if an MAF is still needed. A certain amount of unmetered air will confuse the car into thinking the MAF isn't working. PLUS coils????

Sorry but the answer to winning a war is never a fool hearty mad dash for the prize; it's calculated maneuvers inside a battle space. In other-words... break the problem down to it's smallest variables, and take them on one at a time.

all i can help you with is the lower ball joints. as stated above they come as a whole piece which is the knuckle. max at 5 star ford has them for cheap brand new. 366.43 was my final price for the left and right w/ shipping. and a local shop charged me 140 for the labor. not bad compared to the 1000 the dealer charges, for one i'm assuming?

Be aware that separate ball joints are now available for the early cars. Take a look on Ebay. These don't seem to be for the sport models. The printed shop manuals come up on Ebay too but the illegal CD/DVD copies are always on Ebay. Don't pay over about $10.
This is a separate ball joint for $60.

Here is a full set of 8 new coils. You can not beat this price. I would change them all!!! These are only $20 each and are brand new Ford parts.

Doubtful that you have MAF problems. Change ALL your coils and plugs BEFORE doing anything else. When changing them if you find ANY oil on the coil or plug then change the valve cover gaskets NOT the intake manifold gaskets!!

You are lucky today! Even the valve cover gaskets and spark plug well gaskets are on Ebay!

This is for 5 sets but maybe you could get just one set from who ever wins the auction?

Unless they show the Ford box in the photo, I would not believe they are OEM.

Has anyone bought these to verify they are Ford?

Thank you

Thank you for all of the suggestions and advice. It will save me a lot of money (luckily I walked away from the dealership that our family has done business with for 20+ years). This will be a good project next month.

Any further advice would be appreciated for our 2000 Lincoln LS V8.
