My Mark has begun eating the trans. When leaving from a stop in drive, it grinds and hesitates as if the the brake caliper is hanging up.
It only does it leaving from a stop and at low speed (parking lot crawl). It drove fine on the freeway and started exhibiting symptoms on the street. I just parked it to limit further damage.
I am considering just buying another trans outright (if anyone knows of a supplier) but would like to have a few mods done while it is out to increase reliability.
Any recommendations? My Mark is a 97 non-LSC with no motor mods. Would the LSC trans be a better upgrade than a straight Mark VIII?
Thanks for your help.
Eddie

All mark viii transmissions are the same, no difference on the LSC. If you are going to upgrade, buy a 98+ trans because it already has the updated components. If you would like more performance do some searching on the "J-Mod". I think there are a couple places out there that do sell new 4r70w transmissions, but you will be spending an arm and a leg.

is the 98 a straight swap? any electrical issues? Just came back from dealer and they quoted me $1900 for a new trans with a $600 core charge. More than I want to psend, but cheaper than I imagined given the price of other Mark related parts (cup holder, window seal, air bag). The dealer would be a last resort.

dealer is ripping you off talk to a real tranny shop
you can go to car-part.com if you want used

thats not too bad actually. i work at acura and our rebuilt trannies are a decent bit more. usually about $1500 for the trans and a $1200 core. our new trans are $3500 for JUST the trannie.

ask Markviiiedrea he had his tranny full built for that much $1500 i think and its way better than stock

Cool, many thanks for the help. I'm pretty bummed with my Mark on the disabled list. So much going on in my life that the last thing I needed was a major malfunction on the Mark's part. But I figure it was inevitable, given the miles 154k and my driving habits. The Mark has been parked the majority of the time lately as I blast LA traffic daily on an 05 Softail. Still was nice knowing the Mark was always there if needed. Still got a 4spd vette under construction to drive in a pinch if the weather gets too ugly to navigate on 2 wheels.
Thanks again for the info.
