Well, my week has been enjoyable. NOT!

First I get a nail through the sidewall, can't be plugged so I get a new tire. New tire goes flat. Turns out I had a cracked wheel too. Got a new wheel from Rockauto for 290, dealer wanted 450. Go out today to look at the new chrome in daylight and the f'in front tire on the same side as the new wheel is flat. Ran my hand over to see if I can feel a nail, no dice. My thinking - another cracked wheel. And the icing - all four wheels need new lugs. Problem is, I can't find a socket that will fit the swollen things to break them off. And, I locked myself out of my house and had to kick in the back door.

What a week.

That's exactly what my grandma said when I found out about the crack, minus the "hope things get better" part. I guess I should have knocked on wood or something.

Sebring with a build date after 1 April 1997 are the lugs I need, correct? Any other information about them?

just keep smashing sockets on. when you round it, go to the next size down. eventually, you'll break off the shell and the damn thing will come off but expect a lot of effort and time.

MB579290 is the part # for the chrysler sebring lugnuts. I have a full set on right now. Way better than the stock ones. These are only for the exposed lug nut style I believe. Since I don't have the 16's I can't vouch for fitment on those. I have the 17" 5 spoke stockers.

Yes, Nate, I sure did. I used JB Weld and taped it into position and let it set for about a day.

02Linc, thanks for the tip, I've gotten 3 stripped to the nut so far. Time for lunch.

Thanks Pete. I'll just get enough for one wheel and if they fit I'll get more, if not I'll return them. Someone has to be first to confirm it, right?

Your local chrysler dealer should have them in stock. Maybe not enough for all 4 wheels, but they should have a few. Let them know you can get them for 3.75 from a dealer in Vegas. That's what I said when they told me the list price was like 9 bucks a piece. If you can get close to 4 bucks, you did well.

I suppose you don't have a picture of one of the lugs? Do your's have a washer on them, and enclosed on the ends?

1. Hammer on a 19mm socket.
2. Take the lug nut off.
3. Place the socket in a vice.
4. Hammer the lug back out with a flat punch.
Repeat.

It took me about 15 minutes to do all 20 once I had the rythm down.

+1 I was going to give that advice too, as that's the process I went through. Be careful so you don't hit your wheel with the hammer :D

if the sebring lugs fit the ls then they will fit any wheel as long as it is a flat seat. which they all are. so buy them all and dont waste the time.

One of my buddies just had a baby last year, wifes at home, he got let go at work yesterday and wrecked his BMW on the way home because he was driving while so upset. Seems like a bad week for everyone.

My lugs were swollen. I ended up hammering the lug wrench onto them to get them off. Pep boys had a set of chrome ones that I purchased last year and couldn't be happier with.

Yup and check your local O'Reilys, they have the lugs in stock most of the time, or they will get them within 24 hours.

Getting the Sebring's from Advance. I'm not gonna deal with all that hammering it out only to have it foul up again. I'd be pretty pissed if I was out on the highway and I couldn't get the spare on. But, thanks for the advice, its always welcome.

yea the only way to get it off is to hammer a smaller socket on it... if you cant get the lugs off now how do you plan to get them off on the side of the road.. your lugs need replacing

97 STSCADDY - I feel like more of a retard than usual. I read your instructions to get the lugs off and thought that you wanted me to re-shape the damn things. I did eventually hammer on a 13/16" socket and went to a vice to hammer an allen wrench through to get the lug back out. After I'd gotten the new lugs of course.

Thanks for everyone's help, its very much appreciated.

Nate - It's funny you asked me about that mirror. I had it on and then I was walking past my car in the ice, fell and what did I take out with me? The mirror. Fell flat on my back and could see it dangling. Oh well, I'm not driving it until we get a good rain to wash the sand off the roads.
