LVC members, I am relatively new to the forum. I have been negotiating to purchase this 2001 V8 LS w/ 90k on the odometer. It has some dings, needs a couple knobs (sunroof and drvr seat), the center dash directional vents have come off track, the drivers door and console have a rattle, the headlight covers are cloudy.... just general TLC

I have a friend that owns a local lot and I have had it on a demo for the last few days. The leather interior is in very good shape, everything seems to work.... I'm missing the owners manual.

The front end was just serviced, 3 coils have recently been replaced (doubt he had the VGC's were done) but no visible leaks and transmission was serviced all at the same time but I don't know if the solenoid(s) were replaced. I'm getting a copy of the most recent service order from the credit union that owns the car now.

I haven't written the check yet but it will end up being less than $7000 w/ plates

thanks guys

IMO, I don't know why Ford/Lincoln made those rims for the LS, IMO those things are so ugly.

But sick color, great shape.

I have to agree the rims make it look like an older Acura legend but I'll live with them since it has brand new tires.

i think you should write the check out for 6400 and put it on the table. the few things you will have to fix and the other little things that the LS will eventually require you to change can get expensive

Oh man, that's the most beautiful color I have seen on LS :shifty:, can't go wrong with Aqua Blue.

I agree this is a gamble, after I drove it 3 weeks ago I went back with a "list", the credit union has dropped over 1k in it to get the transmission, front end and misc done. Unfortunately I think this is as low as the credit union will go. I have a couple of hot rods and this is a replacement for an 94Impala clone totaled over a month ago. I'm used to working on my own stuff (this one will be a challenge) and I have a local dealer that treats me fair. I'm expecting to order a VGC, watch both the coils and the transmission.

Rick - anything else $$$ to keep an eye on?

Thanks.

well since you are mechanically inclined that really helps down the road. i would say the typical things that members here have to fix often are the coils, VCG, vacuum leaks, cracked reservoir tank, window regulators, clock-springs under seat and steering wheel, also, the transmission sometimes needs work but if they have worked on it maybe it won't be a problem. these are just some things to keep a look out for but individually they are not that much of a PITA but if they happen to all mess up at once, it tends to piss you off. good luck on the purchase and you have a wealth of LS knowledge within this forum.

Rick,

This site really is a wealth of info. I was a regular on the Impalassforum, it was a must for the more technical repairs. I'm planning on spending $500-$600 on my repairs "list" in the next month. Is the reservoir tank as much of a pain as it appears located under the drivers fender/cowl? Window regulators shouldn't be too bad, maybe at the same time I replace the bubbling interior door handles. Vacuum leaks related to HVAC doors? I haven't heard of clock springs under seat and steering wheel?

Thanks for info

I too have an 01 V8 with 122k miles on it. In the last two months I've replaced both lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, hubs and sway bar end links. So keep an eye out for those things, if your front end starts clunking, could be any of those things. Good Luck with your new car!

Yeah, if it's a credit union repo, they can only go so low on the price--I've seen cars sit on my credit union's lot for months because they can't lower the price enough to sell them. I haven't priced LSes recently, but the price doesn't sound out of line for a car in that condition.

As far as the owner's manual goes, you can get it in PDF form from the Tech Section (see the link at the top of the page), and you can get PDFs of all of the booklets in the Owner's Guide package at http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservice/en/default?page=Home .

...I haven't heard of clock springs under seat and steering wheel?

What Rick is talking about is when the airbag light in your dash flashes a particular code like 3-2 or 3-6. It can be the clockspring in the steering column or the yellow plug (I think it's yellow :) ) under the seat. When the clockspring is going bad your steering wheel controls (radio, cruise control) usually don't work correctly either....

Good luck with the LS if you get it!
