LS8 is my weekend killer. Part it?

Note that the valve lash is set by shims on these heads. I don't know how you would determine the proper lash and get the shims at home. Might be worth some research. If you're getting new valves and lapping the seats, then lash will almost certainly change.

If you look under powertrain --> Engine, you can see the timing alignment and lash procedures: http://deneau.info/ls/

I looked up some random 2000 LS V8 on EBay and fed that VIN into fordparts.com. It looks like the shims are still available at $20/ea. they are all varying thickness, so you would want to mic the ones he has, install them, and then check the lash. If the valve lash is negative, then measure the height of the shim to the spring seat without the cam on, and then try to measure it with the cam on. The difference is now negative the lash is, so reduce the shim size at least that much. If you can't measure it with the cam on, then use a straight edge laid across a machined flat part of the head and measure the difference in height from it to the valve shim instead. Hope you got a trust-worthy set of micrometers. If you are LUCKY, the new valve will be within spec. :)

I just wanted to say thanks to all you guys for the great information !! Got this baby up and running finally bled the cooling system and have heat inside :) This wasn't so bad after all only hang up I had was the pulley's on the fan pump & power steering, removing the pulley's first was the best way after breaking the fan pump bolt.

Only problem I have a P0174 system too lean (bank2) I will have to figure it out. Possibly a vacuum leak or the plugs on that head are junk.

I didn't install my cooling fan or any of the hydralic parts but did leave the two hoses that go into the radiator hooked up for now they're just hiding, I have a push fan in front while I order the flex-a-lite #183 fan, my actuator is bad or some other part of the fan assembly so instead of spending the $150 for the actuator I'll spend the $370 for an electric fan and then perhaps upgrade the alternator if needed. The smaller belt that was mentioned is this thread
http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=68306 worked great !

Not the prettiest. . . .
