Got pulled over the other day in our '00 LS (owned since '02) and the cop told me I had an invalid registration since it said the vehicle mfr was listed as "FORD" and not "LINC". I remember when I bought the car and got it titled / registered I thought it odd the legal paperwork referred to it as a "FORD". But since it's the first Ford I've owned, I figured all LINCs would be that way and didn't give it a 2nd thought. The cop verified the VINs matched, but insisted that I get it fixed ASAP or risk the "wrath of god" next time I get pulled over. I suspect that either someone at the BMV screwed up, or the car was titled as a FORD by the prior owner (bought this car from a dealership BTW).

So the question is, it this unusual to have a LINC registered and titled as a FORD?? Anyone else find themselves in this situation?

Not in 27 years of Law Enforcement have I run across a legal title that was listed as yours. If I bought it from a Dealer I would go to them to straighten it out. You can also go to your Motor Vehicle Dept. and find out what you need to do to correct your Title And Registration.

Somebody sure screwed up somewhere. I would start at the DMV and see what it takes to have this resolved. The serial number will show it's a Lincoln and not a Ford. Tell them you were instructed by a police officer it needed to be fixed because it was invalid. I sure hope this is easy to fix! I hope the title isn't wrong too!

My title and registration come off the same data base, so they are both wrong, I just don't know exactly where it went that way (title I obtained from the previous owner/leasor via the dealership was wrong, OR if the BMV person key-punching my new data screwed up). The BMV is my next stop, I'm sure I can get this corrected........ for a price. Just mainly curious if I'm the only one this has ever happened to. Also curious why the previous time I was pulled over that this wasn't brought to my attention.
