on the freeway last week going about 40 down an onramp, car in front of me is creeeeeping so i step on the gas to get around him. car does not shift into higher gear and instead i start losing speed, accelerator is unresponsive. tried manually switching to a lower gear and there was no response either. had to pull over to the side of the freeway... after maybe 10 seconds i feel the power kick back in and i'm back up to 4th gear or whatever i should have been at.

is this a cylinder misfire due to the dreaded but common valve cover leak issue, or does it sound like something different? i've got a 2000 V8 w/ 58k on it, btw. i checked out the engine after the incident and couldnt' see any oil spots or anything that would indicate a leak, but i can't remember if it's even visible or not when that problem starts.

same thing happened to me not to long ago, except I got stuck in 1st. took it in and had to fix the transmission. even after the fix it still shifts kind of rough going from some gears so I plan on taking it back to get it looked at whenever I get the chance. I think its a common thing for the transmission to go bad on the 2000 version, but seems like it happened a little early in your situation.

crap, well hopefully it's not a fully tranny switch i need. if i baby the accelerator there's no problems but i did push down pretty hard that day. i'm going to keep my eye on it the next couple weeks.

sounds like could be fuel problem too. Clogged fuel filters seem to expose theirselves when you mash it.

i am hoping it is just the fuel filter - i know it's pretty dirty right now. i'll switch that out soon and see what happens.
