So.. I have a 2000 Lincoln LS Sport.. Im trying to get my hp around 300.. what would you guys suggest doing in achieving that? I cut the mufflers off already but I cant really tell if that gave me a hp increase or not..

I cant speak to cutting off the mufflers but it has to be pretty loud without them.

For a gen1 your exhaust is not as optimized as the genII's so I would get a full 2.5 inch exhaust of your choice (many on here choose magnaflow, and there is a kit for it available) a K&N FIPK, and a custom tune. That will get you to around you goal.

Beyond that the mods for this platform are all custom fab jobs and get pretty pricey real quick. Use the search or look around on the Lincoln LS Performance sub forum for more info!

So a magnaflow 2.5 catback system?? And its really not that loud.. I left the resonators on. Its kinda mustangish tho.. So Ill definitely be putting an exhaust system on it. And the "K&N FIPK" Is that the same as a cold air intake?

In all honesty its going to be cheaper to buy the parts separate for the exhaust. You can have piping custom bent, an X-Pipe, resonators (on or off), new mid mufflers if you choose to do so, and some mufflers and tips for less.

You will benefit from having it all done with the larger piping but there is also the option of having the parts purchased to be able to be cut and welded into your existing size to save even more money. Or just buying new mufflers and tips if you want a new sound.

The FIPK is a CAI. Bearsfan is right though that's my bad. I forgot its not available on first gen's. You could get a KKM instead, make your own or get a fleabay kit.

damn you 2nd gens lol, yea definately don't get the ebay kit, i have it and it sucks but i'm too cheap to get a different one lol

Preciate the feedback guys.. quick questions tho..
Doesnt my car already have an x pipe?? when it was on the lift i saw an x pipe under there... do i still need new piping? or can i just run magnaflow mufflers and achieve the same gains? im guessing your saying get new piping to increase the diameter of the pipes correct? so stock im guessing my pips are 2.25.. and new piping will increase me to 2.50. So that small gain in diameter really makes a difference?

pretty sure most go with magnaflow mufflers and and x-pipe, i'm going to be putting on flowmasters and an x-pipe

isn't the fipk just for gen 2's

check this out for intake options

I agree on the flowmaster set up.. i prefer that sound over the magnaflows also.. but i read on here in some thread that if i were looking for actual hp gain then i should go with magnaflows.. I read that flowmasters sound good but thats about it. No increase in power.. is that not a true statement?

its possible the previous owner already put an xpipe in

you don't NEED new piping and yes you can just run magnaflows, BUT increasing the size of the pipe from 2.25 and 2.5 will help with performance

i bought the flowmasters from someone on here, he said he liked the sound better than magnaflows, but he decided to go with magnaflows because they are better performance wise and thats what he was going for

Maybe He did.. it had the stock mufflers on it tho so i didnt even think of that.. but it all looked like it came from the factory like that.. i couldnt see any evidence of exhaust work being done to the car.. and ill keep that piping issue in mind.

2.25" is not the stock size. I should've taken pics of the before and afters when I redid the piping. Oh well. I have an x pipe on the way right now. I'll make sure I take a pic of the old exhaust pipe next to the 2.25" I'm going to be putting in. The largest the stock gen 1 pipe is is 2". Gen 2 stock exhaust diameter is 2.25". Be careful with going too large a diameter pipe. Too big, and you'll lose torque. You will gain on the top end though.

For simple stuff, the only things to really do are tune, intake, and exhaust. Then after that you can gear and stall. But gearing with the LS isn't as easy as removing the pumpkin, reloading, and reinstalling.

Yeah, that post wasn't directed at you. He wanted to know how to get to 300hp. Although, the last 2 sentences in my post above talk about things that don't necessarily add hp.

My '02 Sport came from the factory with what looked to be a 2.25 inch system. I replaced it with a complete Magnaflow system that definitely is 2.25. Pleasing sound but no evidence of more power.

False. Gen 2 goes down to 2" just like the Gen 1.

Good to know, and thanks for the correction. Though really it should just be the last sentence that was incorrect. Is it 2" everywhere? Or just at a pinch point somewhere?

The catalytic comes out with 2¼" as I recall, then it clamps into the front of the resonators at 2".

if you want the easiest way to get to 300hp, you better get a bottle and some giggle gas

I had my mufflers cut off at one time.. seemed like I lost power because of the loss of back-pressure

It does kinda seem like i lost power.. i figured if i cut the mufflers off that would result in a more free flowing system and increase power.. i guess i was wrong. i read on here a guy saying all a muffler does is muffle sound.. and with 4 cats on the ls it'll still have plenty back pressure.. ill probably end up putting flows back there anyway tho.
