It's got the 400 big block, automatic, runs strong with a brand new edelbrock carb.and has centerline wheels on it. Its primer gray and needs interior work, car is all there jus needs attention. He's askin 1800 for the car. Im also in south jersey and the car is in the town of mansfield. Disclaimer: I'm broke, so I'm not buying anything.
Just wondering, is that an original Pontiac 400, or has it been swapped to a 400? Lots of those cars came with Olds 403 engines, and I'm just curious.

Leave it to GM to make different engines per in-house brand. Sure does make it confusing to buy parts for, especially when you get something with one emblem on the hood and something else under it.

as far as i know its an original.... but yea pontiac has done some strange things. As far as old muscle cars go i prefer mopar. For big blocks you had the 383, 400, 413,426 wedge, 440, and of course the 426 HEMI. and theres no mistaking either for another.

GOD DAMN! i cant believe that he sold that for 1000! ask your friend if he can, find a way to get the car back and ill be willing to pay him what he wants for it (up to 2000), that is amazing! ARGGGGGGGGGGGH! and it is either a 400 or a 455, no other motors were offered that year though the 350 was available not only for california residents, but mostly them .it was only offered in the formula. and the espirit had a chevy v6.

If anyone wants to know history on trans ams, or are looking at one, let me know and i will help. i am probabily the most knowledgable bout them in this forum. (dont mean to toot my own horn)

if i was able to buy the trans am from him, i would be able to keep my linc, but i dont think i can now. It is starting to go and it will be expensive to repair, so im gonna sell it and get a truck, and take my money i have saved and get a trans eventually. but i was thinking that i could get the trans, and use that as a daily driver till i get the linc fixed and upgraded, then work on the trans. OMG am i upset. oh well, i guess you live and learn. i shoulda jumped on it sooner.

you are also forgetting the 396 the 427(chevy) 427,428,429(ford) the 454, and ponti 455 (and eventually the ford 460, though you could argue that those cars fitted with 460's were not muscle cars. (and the dodge viper with 488 ci! but thats not a muscle car, atleast an old big block)

Actually, aside from the Hemi, Mopar big-blocks were very easily mistaken from one another. I'm not sure about the 426 wedge, but from what I remember about Chrysler engines, all the big block engines had interchangable top ends. I think the blocks were also identical except the bore, but that might be incorrect. I do remember being told the 440 block was actually "taller" to handle the longer stroke. Thier smallblocks were the same way. Parts from a 318 will fit a 340 or 360.
