wat makes an ls the sport model is it just the 17 inch rims and the semi auto tranny

For 2000-02
Sports came with:
3.9 V8 (not sure if the V6 manual was considered a "Sport")
Select-Shift tranny
17" rims
non-chrome bumper inserts
all leather steering wheel
all leather shift knob
sport tuned shocks
and if I am not mistaken
moonroof and Alpine stereo were part of the "sport" package.

there was also a separate engine oil cooler on the sport model. base model did not have that option.

My 2000 V6 has all those options so I guess you could get a "Sport Package" V6.

+1

Alpine stereo is stock for Gen 1 V8's, the 6 CD was an upgrade though

As for the separate oil cooler, when I look up oil filter there are two dif ones, one for oil cooler one not for it. Does it really matter which one I get?

All the V6 5 speed manuals are sport models. And it's not just shocks that make the suspension a sport model. Sway bars are different too. Sport and non sport have a very different feel to them as far as ride and handling are concerned.

What did you think about the V8 handling when you drove it?

I should've let him drive mine. Oh well, once it warms up again. Hopefully it will have a streetfighter installed by then too

Sports do have a glove box 6 disc changer as far as I know. Mine did and yes the V6s came with either for the 1st Gen.

My 01 non sport has the 6 disc alpine and I'm pretty sure 99.99% of LS's have moonroofs.

The handling on the V8 and the V6 is a little different. With the V8 the feel to the steering is a little heavier and not quite as responsive as with the V6. I would say the V8 handling is great, but the V6 is nimble. Remember too that I have the sport suspension and I think you have a standard suspension. My experience with the sport and non sport is that the non sport suspension has more understeer and the V8 has even more understeer than the V6.

I had my front sway bar replaced and the dealer put in the wrong sway bar. They replaced it with a non sport sway bar. The next day driving home I almost lost the car on a curve on HWY 101. Tight curve that I could take at 42 MPH with the sport suspension and with the wrong sway bar it just did not respond as well. I did go back to the dealer and let them know of hte error and they did replace it again with the correct part. The sport suspension is also very stiff. I had a bump that I would go over every day at work and it literally rattled my kidneys. The non sport suspension is much smoother on bumps.

My last car was a Camaro and overall the suspension on the LS is much more refined than the suspension of the Camaro. Less body roll with the LS and it tracks better in turns. No matter what suspension, the LS is a great car.

what about the LS' that have the rag tops, ive seen 2 , are they a presidential package, i know it doesnt exist, but i wonder how they got there LS like that

There's a few of those around town here. In other threads people said it was a dealer add on and not endorsed by Lincoln.

Not a simple answer.......

All gen 1 LSes were available with or without the sport package. All Gen 2 LS V8s had the sport package; with the exception of a couple examples, all V6s came without the sport package. In 2002 there was one array that had all the sport goodies sans the SST shifter. As far as I know the Gen 2 Canadian LSes were still available in all arrays.

The sport goodies were SST shifter, 17" wheels, oil cooler, "special" shocks and anti-sway bars and a quicker steering mapping. IIRC, any stereo could be had with any array.

Totally a dealer add-on. In fact, when we spoke to Jim Rogers (then VP of marketing) in 2001, he said he wanted to know which dealers were putting on these abominations as he would go and break their legs. He said they could do anything they wanted to any of their cars, but were to leave the LS alone! No stupid carriage tops!!

The window sticker on my 02 LSE had the moonroof and Alpine 6 disc in dash listed as standard on the Sport package? Only actual options I had were Advance-trac, heated seats and LSe option. Was it only standard in 02?

I see at least three on a almost daily basis. I'll shoot pics when I can. One is that lightish tan color with a camel top, one is white with blue if I remember and one is black on black.

If I can I'll provide a address so he can fly on over and do some muscle jobbing;) .
