You guys have all been a great help to me in dealing with my 2001 Lincoln LS8 problems! This site is full to overflowing with how tos and descriptive tech tips. I bought my LS late last year and shortly thereafter experienced several of the known electrical issues with this car. With some hefty time searching the threads here, I was able to find an owner(Marq in Atlanta) who had the same exact problems and knew what the cause was; the FEM! I thought that I was in for some serious coin to find out what was causing the problem until I found his post. Since reading his post, I was able to get a good used FEM off of ebay and a new clockspring (the usual issues there!) and just completed the repair myself for under $250!
One caveat to Marq's post, check all of your connections on the FEM thoroughly prior to buying another. Once I got the FEM from ebay, I went to install it and found that I had a connector that was loose in the socket. When I had originally pulled the carpet back to see the *AA or *AB on the part number, I didn't pull it far enough back to see the loose connector. Once I plugged the connector back in and hooked the battery back up, all my FEM problems went away! So now I have an extra FEM in good working order sitting on the shelf if mine ever konks out for real.
All in all a good experience with the forums and the car. Thanks again and I look forward to checking out the rest of the forums with you folks.
