i was going to change my speakers today when i noticed there was like a box thingy were the speaker cables go not to mention i cant tell wich is positive or negative? please help ..also do i have to use terminals?

01 lincoln ls v6

You weren't seriously expecting that the factory would have just tied the bare wire around the terminals? You will need to cut the connector off and strip the wires. Also if you do a quick search the wiring diagrams are on here multiple times.

Or use a plug-n-play adapter harness.

what if i connect the harnes backwards ? will it improve my sound?

are you being serious right now?

luckily its so easy a caveman can do it, the positive terminal on both the speakers and the harness will be much larger than the terminal for the negative, so you cant wire them up backwards.

now back to the question at hand, that one of the main reasons not to cut the factory harness off, as every speaker wire is a different color, it would be real hard to get the polarity right without the harness. and if hooking up any or all of the speakers backwards would make it "sound better", dont you think they would have done that from the beginning at the factory. why go through so much trouble designing such an elaborate sound system, if they could have just made it sound better by hooking some of the speakers up backwards?

yeah or you could do it the right way and solder and shrink tube all your conections, plus you can cut the harness off with enough wire left on the pig tail side you can re-solder it on if you decide you want stock peakers again for some reason.

and if you sell the car a couple years or so down the road just leave the speakers in it you may as well buy new ones for your new car...

I think that if you connect the speakers backwards and spin the CD backwards you can get secret messages from the devil. I think this only applies to Pat Boone CDs.

anybody ever laugh so hard their sides hurt? i just did, thank you Joe, thank you!

LMFAO.... Too F in Funny..... iivan your making this way too complicated. If you dont know what your doing, i wouldn't start cutting wires. buy the harnesses (they will plug into the cars speaker "plug" and into your new speakers).... buy harness, and take the old speakers out, it should be obvious what to do. If not, come back....

i'm not going to lie, if one has the harnesses and speakers in hand and cant figure it out, they need to sell all of their tools and just walk away. they sure as sh!t wont make it that far, more likely they will also be looking on line for a new door panel

sorry you guys i thought both sides were even on the harnest ...another question where is my factory amp at?

well the amp for the center speakers is to the left of the steering column, the amp for the subs is between them, and the amp for the door speakers is inside the radio.

this is not correct if you have the THX system

No.

the engineers that designed the amp knew exactly what the signal voltage was, so there was no need to adjust the levels to match, they just made the amps to have the same input voltages.
