Need to throw on new rotors & pads next month and am doing a lot of research from past LvC threads, and discussions (i.e. debates) on other car websites like Acura, BMW, Porsche etc. of course i trust the experience and expertise of our own LvC community most so i figured i would open up the discussion here again.

after consistent recommendations i am looking at the combo of Porterfield R4-S pads and R1 Concepts diamond cut drilled/slotted rotors. thanks rick for the tip about R1, it appears they make pretty good stuff. my biggest concern is noise, performance would come in second place. i'd rather get high quality stuff than basic OEM. so if you guys have any opinions about this combination, or others you have tried that have not given you squeaking issues, please post!

btw i'm on 20's, 2000 LS V8, non sport. tips from people with the same specs encouraged.

I personally have Powerslot Rotors w/Akebono Pro-ACT Pads on front and OEM Motorcraft Rotors and Akebono Pro-ACT Pads on Rear. Also im using Stop-Tech SS Brake Lines w/ Motul DOT 5.1 Fluid.

I am not very convinced by the cheap ebay X-drilled Slotted Rotors.

I have the Poterfield R4-S pads and Trinet Sprint drilled/slotted rotors on mine and love it. Dead quiet and much improved braking. Almost no brake dust. The Trinets are much beefier than stock with very high quality castings and machine work.

thanks for the input guys... i figure that the pads have more to do with brake squeal than the rotors and after a few days of breaking them in (no pun intended... heh) i should be in the clear. agreed about cheap ebay rotors. but i've been doing research on the R1's as opposed to the ebay models and the R1's seem head and shoulders above. i know the real test is to talk to people that have had them on their car for a couple years and see how they are holding up. unfortunately i havent talked to too many people in that bracket.

porterfield quoted me $189 total for front & rear R4-S's w/ shipping, that sound about right to you guys that got them already?

i think the premiums are $199 for fronts or rears only, the E-Series i got were $130 for the entire set.

everything's here so will be doing the install in the next few days. will repost here with feedback soon.

What R1 do you suggest?

I have a 2000 LS V-8 (stock) that will be my summer driving car. I am going to replace the ball joints and while I am at it thought about the R1 concept rotors and brakes.

What combo of pads and rotors do you recommend since I see they sell a variety of rotors and pads for the LS? I probably will not take the car out in rain if I can avoid it.

I just installed the following brake components today on our 2002 V8, I picked them up from my local NAPA store. You must be careful when buying parts from them since they offer several levels of quality. These are the premuim line of products- cost me a total of $302.60 wholesale.

#86841 Napa Premuim frnt rotors / $62.57
#86840 Napa Premuim rear rotors / $30.48
#AD7679 Adaptive 1 frnt pads / $61.28
#AD7676 Adaptive 1 rear pads / $55.22

Here's the information on there new Adaptive 1 pads-

I don't sacrifice when it comes to brakes, but anything more is over kill for my application.

My rotors are the premium drilled and slotted ones from R1, the most expensive ones they offer. I actually bought them from a guy who had bought them but sold his LS before he put them on and got them for about half of what I should have. If you're doing brakes I would definitely recommend installing stainless steel brake lines and full synthetic brake fluid.

TDUB, nice one, half price is always good! i was thinking of getting their premium rotors but decided to spend the money on higher end pads. i have heard nothing but praise for the R4-S so i'm really excited to try them.

how much do the brake lines you installed cost?

nevermind just saw them on LS Koncepts. wish i had the extra $$ for those. i know they give you stronger pedal resistance, do they improve stopping distance?

Faster pedal response = shorter stopping distance.

For me just having better pedal response was well worth the $$$.

R4-s

A newbie here...

What is R4-S?

I have everything written down from R1 Concepts and while I am changing the ball joints I was going to have struts, rotors, and brakes changed.

My brake pads are the top of the line pads that R1 sells made for aggressive street and autocross use, they're listed for 112.23 right now on R1's ebay store for all 4 pads. If I remember correctly I bought the lines through them also when I bought the pads, but I no longer see them listed on here. I noticed a drastic change in brake distance when I installed them with the full synthetic brake fluid though.
