I have a defective ignition switch in my '03. It chimes even with the keys out whenever the drivers door is open. I thought about cutting the key in position wire, but it seems to be wired into downstream circuits. Now I'm thinking about just disabling the "speaker". Does anyone know where it's located and if this is possible in some easy way?

Thank You

Ahh, the joys of driving an electronic monster. Most of the systems in the LS are controlled by signals from the various computer modules, rather than being controlled by line voltages, so it's difficult (if not impossible) to change certain behaviors of the car without affecting other systems by cutting wires.

I don't know for sure where the speaker is, but given that it is probably the same one used for all warnings, I personally wouldn't want to disable it. It's probably buried somewhere in the dash, which isn't going to be an easy find.

If you can live with it for the short time you're getting in and out of the car, you can disable it when you have the door open for longer times by using a screwdriver or socket extension to close the latch. You just have to remember to pull the handle before you try to close the door. ;)

The other thought I have is to wire the key in ignition wiring to a key on hot relay to simulate the function of the sensor. I hate the dinging! I need to correct this issue to stay sane. I do have a remote start on the car that was already there when I bought the car. From what I see, it is a hack job:mad: I wonder if that could be some/all of the issue.
