Hey, i have bee n reasearching the JLT intake for 96-98 cobras, will this intake work on a stock mark viii throttle body and with a stock gen 2 mark viii intake manifold? i realize the gains will be small but i saw some GREAT dyno sheets of n/a 4 valvers picking up great power from one. as good as 15 rwhp. i would like to add this with an addition to a pro-m 80-85mm maf, (again, i know, insignificant gains) and 2 1/2" exhaust and a jmod all at the same time. if all works out what should i expect to run with a Pro-m maf, jlt intake, K&N filter, 2 1/2" exhaust, j-mod, and a SCT x2 or x3 tune? i wanna do my modding in stages and this will be the first of a few for my car, i really do hope after all this money the car will feel faster. i also know gears and a converter will be the biggest gains but converters are expensive and i dont really have 500$ for a drive shaft, 300$ for trak-lok, and 200$ for gears right now so i figured for the money this is the best i can do right now. let me know what you think , i come here to learn, i appreciate EVERYONE'S input

No idea how well that cold air will fit. But it's possible you can adapt it.

You might pick up a couple tenths with those basic mods.

Why do you need a $500 driveshaft when a 93 shaft with new u joints is about $100?

Trac lok. $100, get one out of a Super Coupe.

Gears, you can find good Ford 4.10's for less then $100.

Now labor will run ~$300 to have them installed unless you are capable of doing the work.

so if you already know you won't get much (if any) gain, why do it?

the mustang intake is designed quite a bit differently so comparing those numbers is apples and oranges here.

really, you want the entire intake, not just the plastic tube. as the 2nd gen intake is quite restrictive.

the stock maf is also just fine for stock power levels.

save your money for an exhaust, tune, gears, and a stall converter.

way more fun.

I've heard there can be issues with the Xcal 3 on Marks, you may want to research that more. I'm using an Xcal 2

I wanted to do these mods to pick up every little hp I can and improve asthetic appearance I hace searched and sow people powder coating factory egr tubes/intakes but I really prefer the looks of the bbk, or the jlt etc. i know the bbks have had their issues too but my point being i would not wanna pay geno or anyone else ( no offense ) to powdercoat the factory one due to cost and anything i can due to improve underhood appearance and even give me a couple miniscule hp gains im still interested in doing lol. thanks everyone for the replies.

Also, i have done a lot of reading about the cobra intake for awhile i found a good deal on a ported short runner intake for 400$ i need to get it asap. i know cutting the intake runner lengths up to a maximum of 1.5" can provide enormous gains oin the top end included with imrc delete (mmr makes these) that's just for a little down the road, but yes sir everything everyone said is correct, it can provide as much as .5 off of you 1/4 times from what ive seen with the imrc deletes and the PSR intake.

Also, if i could find a good deal on a 93 driveshaft and i had the cash i would buy it asap but i can never seem to find one unfortunately, i know they are the only 1 pc alum. driveshaft 93 only but when i went to scrap yards multiple times looking for stuff like that i couldn't seem to find them

Although while i ws there i did find aperfect gen 2 wood console trim, a manual parking brake release, 2 door lock pin grommets, a fuse panel cover, a cigarette lighter, and a few other things for the whopping total of ........ $8.62!!! at the same junkyard lol

Saturn5- im sure its basic knowledge but i researched and could not determine, can ANY set of ford 8.8 gears fit the mark viii rear end without modification or do you need IRS specific gears? i actually have a super coupe but id prefer to not get the trac lock out of it, lol

8.8 gears are 8.8 gears.

the carrier is another story. it must be a 28 spline carrier to use the stock axles.
an IRS carrier is preferred, but a solid axle carrier can be used IF you remove the C clips on the mark viii half shafts. other wise, the half shafts won't slid back out.

i am running a carrier and gears from a solid axle car. i have removed the C clips and i do not have any issues. the car is not driven nicely.

what should i expect to run with a Pro-m maf

The same times that you would with your stock MAF. ;) Ignore the hype and even make a phone call to Lonnie over at Blue Oval Chips if you are so inclined. He will tell you the same thing I am. You do not need to upgrade your MAF and it will provide no gains. You will not peg your MAF until you get to a power-adder level. Remember a MAF does not make power, it only limits power if there is a bottle-neck there and on a naturally aspirated Mark8 there is no bottle neck at the MAF. Use that money towards something else performance-oriented. I am still using the stock MAF on my 98 and I expect to have one of the quickest naturally aspirated Mark8s if I get a chance to run my car at the track this spring.

Chris 2523 - dude , i wanna thank you personally for everything you have literally tried to answer every single question ive asked, you have been a big help. I completley believe what your saying, but i am curious, why is there IRS Specific and Non - irs Specific Gear Ratio sets on some websites, there is no difference at all? im sure your right, just a little confused. and okay i think i could manage to find one of those cheap for sure. Thanks again for all your help!

kstromberg- NO NEED to tell me about your awesome gen 2 lol ive only seen one person with a faster n/a gen 2 it was a Toreador Red LSC ( think it ran 13.22) guy posts on thiswebsite sometimes, ive seen literally every single video youve posted on youtube your account is mr.hotrodlincoln right? Ill listen to what you say about the maf cause i really want mine to run like yours does.

Travis, first off let me give you some advice. If you go to the top of the page you are going to see "Site Help". Go there and read through it. It's going to give you the facts on how to edit your profile, and post pics, etc. You will also find that while there isn't a law against it (LOL) it isn't necessary to create a new post in response to everyone here and will help to keep the board a bit less cluttered if you know what I mean. ;) We have a function called "multi-quote" which you will also learn about there.

Thanks for the kudos. The silver car has came a long ways. I won't know a new time until I get to run it again but I'll be somewhere close to the very top on the all motor list.

If you don't have the funds currently, don't try to put all your fries in one basket at once. It's going to cost some money. You'll need to open up the entire intake/exhaust system, address the entire driveline and get some tuning. Start with what you can handle and work your way up.

Correct. I'm doing/done the same deal with my SVO with a Cobra IRS. Stick Trac Lok, 4.10's, no c clips on NOS Mark VIII axles. I believe the only reason the clips are there are to hold the axles to the center section during original assembly at the factory.

Are you using c-clip eliminators? What holds the axles in?

Err..... I have a 99 Cobra IRS. ;)

some people go to the jy and pull the rear end from Ford Exploders- 3.73 lsd's, that can be an inexpensive solution if you're prepared to pull it yourself on site
...I got all geeked up to do the gear swap awhile ago, and bought two sets and differentials...other stuff came up (I bought another Mark, lol) and the gears are on hold...so I have two cariers and two ring/pinions...I would sell my used Trac-Lok and like new Fomoco 4.10 if you're interested....

I'm keeping the Auburn carrier and 3.73...yes, all u haytahs...3.73, :N

dnsherrill - i would be interested actually! whats the condition of the Trac-lok assembly and gears? how much would you want? you can pm me if you feel more comfortable. thanks again for everything, youve been a big help also
