I used to have a first gen LS, a 2001. I sold it and bought an 04 sport, True Blue :D I love the second gen, it's a really awesome car, and the one I found was in AWESOME shape. To prove it, I changed out the driver side wheel bearing hub assembly, and it just slid right out, no rust or banging! Everything that came with the car is still on the car, including the motor cover, and the splash guards :)

Anyway, I am just doing some regular maintenance, as its at almost 122k, spark plugs, cops, motor oil, oil filter, fuel filter, coolant flush, upper radiator hose, etc. Just preventative maintenance (except the upper radiator hose, the old plastic piece busted).

While I am doing all this, I am only using motorcraft parts, because I have had bad experience with non motorcraft parts on my 01. I used some NGK spark plugs to give it a tune up, and it start misfiring bad. Is anyone else crazy about using OEM parts?

I love this car

I didn't have any luck with NGKs in mine either. A month after I installed them I was getting misfires in 3 cylinders so I thought it can't be the plugs. Replaced the cops on the 3 cylinders that were misfiring and no change. Went back and got autolite plugs and installed and all was good. Now here it is 3 months later and I'm misfiring again. No part store that I have gone to carries motor craft plugs that I need.

Aren't OEM motorcraft plugs NGK?

Thats what I pulled out of mine when I replaced the plugs and coils.

Yes, and that's what I've used as replacements. No problems other than I had to adjust the gap on a couple of them.

Do yourself a favor and buy a true feeler gauge. The one with multi blades.
I can't tell you how many times I got the wrong gap.

I've been running NGKs for about, wow, about a year now. Didn't realize I've had the car that long until now. No misfire problems since the plugs were replaced, all gaps were verified before install. However, NONE of the plugs had the correct gap for the LS out of the box, every single one had to be gapped.

One last thing, platinum and other metals that have the little tiny electrodes cannot be gapped the same way as the older copper plugs. You have to adjust the ground by using a gapper wrench, or with careful use of a set of pliers. If you try gapping them the old fashioned shadetree way by prying the electrode up using the gapper as a pry bar and the electrode as a pivot point you will damage the electrode. I've had no problems gapping plugs using a really good set of needlenose pliers made of actual steel rather than the cheap Chinese pot metal that will deform when pressure is applied.

checked the gap on the new NGKs and low and behold none were at the correct gap. gapped them to 1mm and no misfire at all now. Not even while at low rpms pulling hills. Thanks guys for the info.

I have stuck with Motorcraft platinums. Like others have said with the NGKs the Motorcraft plugs all needed to be gapped as well.
