The Lincoln Mark VII Club cordially invites you to join us for an outrageous day of fun, Lincolns and NASCAR racing.

On Saturday, August 30, (Labor Day weekend) bring your Mark VII out to Irwindale raceway and join us. You will receive FREE admission. Your car will be displayed with other Mark VIIs in the pavilion area inside the spectator compound as the crowds arrive. Just before the main event, you and your car, along with the rest of the Mark VIIs, will be escorted onto the 1/8th mile racetrack for a few parade laps in front of the waiting spectators. The announcer will tell the crowd your name and a little about your car. You will be escorted back to the display area just before the main event starts.

Your car need NOT be show quality. It can be a daily driver, work in progress, beater or full-blown racecar.

So come out and join us! This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Irwindale Raceway, NASCAR, and Mark VIIs. Who could ask for more?

E-mail junkyardkat@thelincolnmarkviiclub.org or blimps98@yahoo.com for further details or be at the racetrack at noon. A parking attendant will escort you to the proper location.

Irwindale Raceway is located in Irwindale, California where the 210 freeway and the 605 freeway collide!

I just has an update on Irwindale Raceway event.

Anyone planning to come should arrive at 2:00 PM, not noon!

(My bad!)

Thanks, Art

The Lincoln Mark VII Club celebrated its first major west coast publicity event on Saturday, August 30, 2008. Lincoln Mark VIIs owners arrived from as far south as San Diego, and as far north as Bakersfield and San Jose, to come together at Irwindale Speedway, in Irwindale, California, to display their cars, mingle with spectators and circle the NASCAR ½ mile racetrack before the grandstands.

At 3:00 PM, everyone had arrived at the speedway and assembled in the parking lot for a car count. Irwindale officials then escorted us to the pavilion within the spectator compound.

The Irwindale representatives, officials and staff were very organized and extremely cordial. They explained the process, asked for our club information and told us when to return to the cars in preparation for our parade laps. The cars were displayed until 6:30 PM when we were escorted onto the track.

John Franz, a longtime member of the Southern California Chapter was asked to lead the So. Cal. contingent, even though he was driving his Corvette. It seems that unfortunately, shortly after selling one of his Marks, the other had been totaled. We felt that it was appropriate that he lead us around the recetrack. Jeremy Koerner in his stealthy looking, 351, 5 speed powered “Mach VII” brought up the rear. This was done quite deliberately as on our final lap, Jeremy produced a considerable cloud of “tire smoke” which drifted through the grandstands to the delight and surprise of the cheering spectators.

We were escorted back to the pavilion area where the cars were displayed until the track closed at 10:30 pm.

This was a memorable event with enthusiastic participation, and a wonderful opportunity to showcase these remarkable automobiles and a car club with worldwide membership.

On behalf of The Lincoln Mark VII Club I would like to thank Irwindale Speedway for their hospitality and for extending an invitation for the club to participate again next season. I would also like to thank The Lincoln Mark VII Club, in particular John Dancy, for their suport, assistance and contribution to The West Coast Chapter, which made this event possible.

Mostly I would like to thank the participants who waxed, polished, shined and in some cases, drove great distances to make this event a success. Those folks are: John Franz, Steve Erler, Rafael Zamora, Rafael Zamora Jr., Mark and Suzy Kaletta, Bill Kelly, Jeremy Koerner, Erik Hoard, Seth Wilson, Toby, Ian Wilson, Chris Wilson, my wife, Kat but mostly, Brent Wilson who conceived the idea over a year ago and coordinated and organized the event. I am personally honored to have been a part of it.
