thinking about cutting out 3rd cat , running dual 2.5 in and out muffler with internal x pipe and then pipe the rest of the way back with tips.
would this work just as good as doing the 2 x pipes and mufflers at the rear? i really dont think the hp could be that much difference between the 2 setups unless maybe you were in the 500 to 600 hp range . anyone know much about this?
thanks

It would probably work fine and have a good loud rumble to it. If you're aiming for a mean sounding car go for it. If you want it to be a bit more civil I'd go with the Xpipe+magnaflow muffers.

shouldnt be overly loud though ? a good rumble is fine with me and the long pipes out the back should give it a nice mustang v8 sound i hope

The pipes before the third cat are no bigger than 2 1/4 so for cost you do not need anything bigger than that the rest of the way back. I've seen more evidence that a H-pipe works better than a X-pipe lately and have heard there is no difference between one or two X-pipes. My Magnaflow X-pipe resonator works well but is loud. For sound or note I like Geno's Expansion II mufflers or Borla's. http://www.youtube.com/user/1210291341?blend=23&ob=5#p/u/3/d47rWdtS4cQ

In my opinion it would probably sound great. Assuming that you're leaving the upper two cats and stock manifolds it probably wouldn't be too crazy. My car is pretty loud, but with the windows closed you can still hear the radio and talk with people fine. Highway drone is the only real annoyance.

That is a Magnaflow x muffler and a mandrel bent exhaust.com with Roush tips

That sounds awesome,

when I had my 94 I had just the mid x muffler like you are wanting but I had no cats and it was loud!!! Sounded awesome but was annoying after a while, especially the drone at highway speeds going up a hill.

Buckeye68's sounds awesome

Thanks, I totally expected to need to add cats to the system but on the freeway I don't even hear it with the radio on a average volume. sadly it is the only thing i am 100% happy with on it (everything else needs tweaked one way or another)

I had that set-up as well.

2.5" from the cats back into a dynaflow 2in 2out with an internal x pipe, then dual 2.5" running out the back with just tips.

I loved the sound, however, conversation was a little bit of challenge.

heh, they have one here on Sundays at times too, about 3-4x the size of yours, I'd love to try it out some time, but to chicken to make an a$$ of myself though (I can do that well enough without the car), lol :D

Here is a pic of the Magna Flow Resonator Dual in & out 3" I run.
