Howdy,

Well I had my Svc ((P)) Brake light come on again yesterday. It didn't come back on after we turned the car off nor this morning after I used it last night, however its getting a bit annoying if not questionable on its reliablity since I do park on an inclined driveway and like to keep the load on the brake not the transmission. Are these things prone to failure and I'm sure they are not cheap either.

Thanks,

There is a TSB for the 03s and 04s (maybe the 05s too, but not the 06s) that says to replace the electronic parking brake assembly with one that has new software. However, I assume that you are out of warranty and don't want to go to this expense. I don't think the problem that you are seeing ever leads to any true failure of the system. There are two things that I know of which seem to trigger the message. The first is if your battery is not in perfect condition. The second is if you turn the key back on briefly after having just stopped and set the parking brake.

Okay so I seem to be having this issue but is happening more frequently now that the weather is getting colder by the day. My battery is new will double check it in the morning make sure its not leaking etc.. other than that it pops up here and there shut off the car and restart it and problem solved. How much would it cost to change the electronic parking break assembly and what would the job entail me doing . ty guys

Mine warning comes on from time to time, it happened in Texas during the Summer, and now its done it twice this winter, I don't use the brake as I park in the garage and its level.

I use the parking brakes on both of mine every time when parked. I've never had an issue on the 06. The 04 complains once or twice a year.

I also get the warning a couple of times in the winter on my 04, always goes away on a re-start regardless if I use my e-brake or not.

yeah same here, been searching through lvc archives seems everyone has experienced it, going to wait till spring/summer and then see what I shall do cause its hell annoying

On mine, the plastic sleeve that attached to the caliper broke. Great idea using plastic parts on high tension parts, Ford.
