Picked up these guys from Sonic Electronix via eBay to replace my blown subs on my '05 with an otherwise stock THX / NAV system. I chose these speakers based on their 2 ohm impedance, 94 db sensitivity and honestly the $70 price to my door for a coaxial speaker. The tweater is steerable and has a +3db switch but doesn't get much use in this application.

As I wanted to make the install a plug and play I refashioned the OEM plug to work with the new speakers and soldered it in place.

The install was pretty straight forward. The speakers come with a 1/2" spacer and it was needed as the speaker did not recess in the stock hole very well. The speaker is slightly longer than the stocker as well so I had to tear away some of the foam sound deadener for clearance. With the spacer I ended up using some 8-32 x 1.5" flat head screws I had on hand to replace the self tapping ones Ford used. I had to tap the original holes and ended up putting points on the screws so they were easier to start. I just threaded the screws into my wire stripper and ran the tip against my belt sander to fashion a point.

Once installed the new speaker took up less room vs. the OEM one.

Finally even with the 1/2" spacer the speaker stays well away from the factory grill.

I'm not an audiophile so it's hard to describe but the sound quality vs. stock was balanced and really complimented the other speakers. The original THX system sounded good but these make the lows feel more detailed. These subs do not overpower the other speakers nor make them feel washed out. On my system I run the bass and treble mid way, the volume seldom over 3/4 and am very happy with the sound with any style of music. I may end up with a set of door speakers later this summer when I won't have to fear the plastic bits breaking from the cold.

FYI, the stock HU only sends the lows to the rear speakers as, in stock form, they are subs.

Volume at 3/4???? MAN!!!!! I'm pretty comfortable at no more than 1/4!

Usually mine is around 1/4 too but sometimes you just have to turn it up. I intended the statement more as I don't run the volume wide open and don't see a need to change out the basic hardware down the road for more volume.

lol at 1/4 of the way up, I cant even hear the radio over the sound of the exhaust and the wind from the open windows!
