I know there are several threads about this already, and i've read many of them, to no avail.

I've also read over this document, but can't really make a lot of sense of it:
http://deneau.info/ls/s6x~us~en~file=s6xdd003.htm~gen~ref.htm#extract_293

Here are my symptoms, if anyone has any insight or previous experience, thank you in advance.

Turn on car, disable button light stays on, indicating a failure of the system.
Backup lights on car both working correctly.
When car in reverse, there is no chirping at all. Holding an object directly in front of each sensor triggers no sound at all, even outside the car near the sensors.
Previous owner put on a tow hitch - could this have caused a problem?

Again, thanks in advance guys.

I wonder if they tapped into the power for the backup sensors for the trailer power.

I wonder it they damaged the radar module hidden in the bumper at the middle, right where the hitch would go?

Anyway, a good scan tool would help.

a scan tool like what would be available at advance auto or the like?

i want to take the hitch off very soon, as i'll never use it. it looks like there are 4 bolts attaching it - is that typical or is it more complex than that.

thanks guys.

A scan tool such as a Ford/Lincoln dealer or maybe one of the better independents might have.

so today the system worked 2 times that i was reversing - out of maybe 4-6 times total. light did NOT come on, beeps started and got more frequent as car got closer to object. WTF?

thats how it supposed to be isn't.

yea, that was my point. yesterday it actually worked a couple times correctly, whereas most of the time, the light on the deactivate button lights up, and the system is inoperative.

Back to needing a scan tool to tell you why the system is disabling itself most of the time...

Well....... With the light on the system is deactivated......
