iac valve cleaning benefits?

I've read a few threads that mention the benefits of cleaning the iac valve. I have a 98, and I would like to know where to find it and what I would need to remove it and clean it out good.

it's really easy... it's the metal cylinder lookin thing with a wire connected to it in the middle/top of your engine... just need to remove two bolts... what I did to clean it was saturate it with carb cleaner and then I took a pipe cleaner and cleaned it as best I could... it really made a difference in the way it idles and runs... it still surges from time to time when it's cold... but idles smooth most the rest the time...
