As some of you know, I just bought a new daily a while ago, and have been driving it everyday to work for the past 3 weeks.

It has been a great car, and in fact if it wasnt for a miss under hard accelleration it would be a freakin all out rocket!

It uses/leaks a little oil and trans fluid, but not much...

Anyway, This morning, I pull out up to the highway... and it is hard to see what cars are in what lane coming at you when turning left, So I pull out, and far back there is a car coming, so I step into it, and the car takes off..

The car gets to 6K RPM in first gear and then goes VVWWWINNGGGG!!!! BUCK!!! Then it seems like the trans was free-wheeling... and I heard VVWWWINNGGG, VVVWWWIIINGGG!!! as I tried to pedal it and find a gear...

So I let off, the car is ON MY ASS obviously, and finally it grabbed 4th gear and bogged...

So I come to a stoplight... and I take off. Keep in mind I am a little scared and driving it easy, well, The car revs to 4K driving it easy, then shifts, and sorta delays before it goes into gear, and shifts sorta hard doing it. So now it takes forever to get outta first gear. Sorta like driving a stick and holding it in the gear you want to be in.

So...

I think my 1 to 2 shift accumulator springs are broke! and I hope that is all that is bad!

It's going to be more than that... usually the 1 2 you feel some hard shifting at those spots.

I just recently lost my OD on my 94.. car will drive fine up to about 40 mph but then stays in 3rd... will not come out...

Getting it rebuilt in a few days...

I drove it at lunch, everything feels fine, except the 1/2 shift... I think I MIGHT have gotten lucky

Mlps or low trans fluid.

If the springs break, the shift is hard, thats all. Not delayed, etc.

Get some tranny Dr. from your local auto motive shop and put it in. It may extend your life a little bit longer.

Come now Rich :) If fluids could fix mechanical things we would build pools around our engines so we could soak them in oil :)

Your problem is most likely the intermediate one way clutch. I had the exact same thing happen to mine as yours. I replaced the 1-2 accumulator and put fresh fluid in mine and it was the same. When you see the one way clutch it's amazing it lasts as long as it does. I think I might have destroyed mine though as I had manually shifted it a few times. Have you done this???

You can have the current one rebuilt and they should upgrade that clutch or put in a 98 like I did. They can be had for a decent price.

I've manually shifted it about maybe 3 times since I've owned it... but once I realized that it shifts quicker NOT doing that... I just leave it in drive and turn the OD off. This morning I didnt turn off the OD, but I was in first so I think it didnt have anything to do with it.

I was told the 14-clutch deal there was stronger than the newer one or something...

Oh, and I already pour Lucas in it ;)

I manually shift a lot. Then again I may be just lucky with the trans, I know I was not with my original engine! :)

Sounds like the OWC to me...

This is why you should upgrade fi you are going to rebuild your trans Rich....

nope.. sorry to say you have smoked the one way clutch.
It's a common failure on pre-98 transmissions.

I know this is true because you literally posted the exact scenario that I went thru when I blew up my first gen trans...

If I were you, I would just start now and find a 98 mark 8 trans, it's the easiest upgraded trans to put in.
There are other trans that will fit but the 98 mark 8 trans is the one that requires the least amount of BS to get it up and running.

It turns out I lost second gear and it was winding up before it dropped into 3rd, then 4th and OD, I just bought an '03 Mustang GT transmission, and I am having Alan at Dirtyd0g Performance out here where I live do the necessary actions to get it to work with my Mark, and put it in for me, along with a heavy duty trans cooler.

Should have it back on Tuesday!
