The TCI is ate up, stupid FoMoCo engineers. Stupid me. I should have worked in a tune sooner, but for future reference, the factory transmission "tune" allows for the converter to slip every 8rpms, destroying the clutches inside. Luxury bullspit.. Im gonna go for a better one this time around.. Im only getting about a 2600rpm stall speed right now and I can feel it slipping ect whilst driving normal, WOT still seems to be alright after shes in her power band... Time to throw more money at her like the stripping smut she is.. lol

good to know I'm gonna have to modify the tune when I install one. Sh*tty that you had to learn the hard way.

FWIW, I just recently got the "CHECK TRANSMISSION" error with P0741 (Torque Converter not locking, or somesuch). After replacing the TC and solenoid pack, the dealership finally tracked it back to the valve body (which is actually where I asked them to start, but that's another story; of course, it's not like I really cared, since Ford was picking up the tab, less the $100 deductible, but I digress). At any rate, check out the valve body, too.

After a quick Google search, it looks like that's a not-terribly-uncommon problem.

IIRC some one like PATC makes an upgraded valve body and solenoid pack. Ill look into it for future reference, I think this time around Im gonna go with a billet 3400 stall speed converter or just see if TCI will rebuild/upgrade my current one. Looking for a fast turn around tho, took about 8hrs total the first time around for swapping the converter but that was mainly due to a couple stubborn exhaust manifold bolts.

Might wanna look into working one in now and see how it effects the stock converter. Could be night and day just like Torrie's or Robert's tunes

Just talked to torrie. He'd be willing to go through the process with me (or you of course) to make sure everything works perfectly. Would be slightly more money than the standard 3 pack of tunes. He says the trans is wide open as far as what he has control over. Said it would take some back and forth to get it all fine tuned, but he'd stick with it until it works properly.

Pisss, wish I still lived in Florida, Id just bring it over to him, oh well, Ill work it out myself.

The "back and forth" I was referring to is just through the device. He writes a tune, I load it, datalog, send it back, he fine tunes it, sends it back, I upload it and datalog, send it back, etc.

I havent even loaded my PRP onto my laptop yet, no time. Im sure I can work something in pretty quick tho once I get a new converter. Gotta get those wheels first tho.

I was just suggesting it because the intermittent failure of the valve body was what led to the "failure" of the torque converter, at least in my case. That may not be your case, but it would suck to put a high-quality TC in there, only to have a faulty valve body kill it.

Good luck on it, however you go!
