I've searched but have not found the answers.

2000 LS V6 Manual Trans.

Car runs fine and will not overheat if left idling or driving. Does over heat in stop and go driving.

Fan operates on low speed all the time. Putting the AC on max does not cause the fan to operate on high.

Changed the fluid several times same result (old fluid smelled burnt).

Removed electrical line (two wires - brown; green with white tracer) from hydraulic pump. I connected one pin (on the pump) to 12V (from auxiliary fuse box), started car and whenever I grounded the other pin (on the pump) the fan came on high. Every time I ungrounded the wire the fan ran low and every time I grounded it it ran high.

So, what I have is a working hydraulic system (I'm assuming since I can get the fan to run high), but some sort of problem with the electrical control system.

I could not find anything on troubleshooting the electrical end in the shop manual. I'm assuming one wire is hot and the other is controlled by the ECM.

Anyone know which is hot? Is it fused? Which fuse?
Anyway of checking the function of the ECM wiring (other than turning on the AC high?

Thanks

Quick fix? Install an aftermarket temp. controlled fan switch and wire it in series with the ground line from the pump. You can adjust it to turn on the high speed whenever the car starts to get warm.

Install the temp probe behind the radiator.

It's either a failed pump or fan motor. Either way the only fix is a new pump/motor assembly.

No, the OP has clearly established that the fan is operating correctly. There is a fault with the wiring to the fan control solenoid or with the PCM.

The write-up on the electric fan install is very well thought out. I have had zero problems with my hydraulic fan, but one of the changes I'm contemplating, along with the AJ 27 engine, is a conversion to a dry sump oiling system. The oil pump could be made to fit into the space now occupied by the fan pump. More food for thought. THANX!!!

Let's us know the results

I've had 3 fan motors and now the fourth fan pump in my 01V6. Bad design. Hope you can figure out the electrics.

Just another data point. When the car overheats the gauge works correctly and the overheat buzzer and light both work, but the fan stays in low.

Again the fan will run on high with 12V and ground supplied to the fan pump mounted solenoid.

Post #2 tells you how to make the fan work on high and low for the cost of a generic auto parts store temp. controller (About $20). What else are you looking for?

Something like this:

A wiring diagram for the solenoid. I think that's what my first post asked for.

Took some searching because the posts were on a faulty PCM causing a problem with the IACM and the hydraulic solenoid is only mentioned in passing.

I'll trouble shoot over the weekend.
