First of all I'm somewhat of a rookie when it comes to the lincoln ls. I have done minor work like oil change, and simple filters but that's about it. Can someone give me instructions on changing the fuel filter on a 2004 LS v-8. Thanks LVC

Search like Joegr said for a better write up. Take off the driver's front wheel and the plastic wheel well liner closest to the driver's door. The filter is there. You will need the tools to pop the spring lock connectors off. It is a good idea to bleed off the fuel pressire first.

I did not do this and it made it more difficult to get off and then it made a mess all over me and the ground.

You can relieve the pressure using the shrader valve (like a tire valve) on the fuel rail on the driver side. Just press the pin down with a screwdriver with a rag wrapped around it to soak up the extra fuel.

Another way is suggested in the factory manual.

NOTE: The fuel pump relay is located in the main power distribution box, relay number 007.
Remove the fuel pump relay.

Start the engine and allow it to idle until it stalls.

After the engine stalls, crank the engine for approximately 5 seconds to make sure the fuel injection supply manifold pressure has been released.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

When fuel system service is complete, install the fuel pump relay.

NOTE: It may take more than one key cycle to pressurize the fuel system.
Cycle the ignition key and wait 3 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks before starting the engine.

Start the vehicle and check the fuel system for leaks.

Its pretty easy even for a noob. Be careful not to break the plastic clips that hold the lines to the filter

I've heard the clips can be a bit tough to get off and a special tool is needed, although I haven't yet done this myself to see if it's really necessary or just a recommendation.

It's a $2 tool. Why chance it?
