That was something Lincoln itself actually did on some concept cars. It was cool but never really worked well.

I could just see the door malfunctioning and coming up and hitting someone right in the nuts while they are getting in/out of the car.

You have to see in the trunk of that. Its filled with pumps,hoses ,valves ,wires and such.
