How do you kno if the main timing tension is bad?

Hello everybody I started a thread awhile ago about a bad secondary timing tension which is fixed. http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=62335&highlight=timing+tension Now I have a similar noise coming from the engine but its not nearly as loud. I cant tell exactly where its coming fron but it dosent sound like its coming from the drivers side.

That is the reason why I wouldn't put a bandaid on a wound that needed stitches. That tensioner going bad was just a sign of there future failures. You might have cracked a main tensioner and that would cause slack in the main chain and cause the car to run bad. Best bet, while it is still running, would be to just change everything behind the timing cover.

Do you all know how I would be able to tell if its bad or not?

You cannot tell if something like that is damaged unless you inspect it. You cannot inspect it without taking the timing cover off. While you're there, you should just replace everything now before something breaks on you and causes more damage.
