i have a 2002 ls6 and awhile back went to have the brake pads replaced routinely. The dealer never mentioned anything about the mettalic brake pads they installed at the time. I was driving one day and i started to hear this high pitch noise.. incredibly loud.. over my stereo. I turned off the stereo to make sure nothing was wrong and after a couple street lights realized it was my brakes. If i brake lightly there is not sound until i reach a certain point and if a i apply pressure quickly it doesnt happen. But right at the median where i prefer to brake this awful sound. I went to get it serviced and mentioned the problem and they said theyd look at it. When i got back they said it was because they had installed metallic brake pads and that it was supposed to have that noise. Ive never heard of anything like this but im not sure.. anyopne have these brake pads? or any noise from them?

When I first picked up my LS in may (2001 model), I also had the same problem. I contacted a friend who works for a ford dealer. He did some research and found that motorcraft rotors and pads will squeal, but ford brand will not. I swapped over to brand new ford rotors and pads and all is well now (after 3000 miles). minor brake dust, but no sounds

Hope that helps

yea i got some duralast pads from advance and just replaced pads and tehy squeal at the prefer'd braking point not if i brake lightly or hard. i'm insterested in fixing this also

I just ordered some pads from NAPA, after much reading online. They get good reviews from many forums (not lincoln specifically) and they are reasonably priced.
They are the NAPA Ceramix pads (ceramic instead of metallic)
The rears I ordered were $46. You can see them at the NAPA site online.
I should have them on this weekend.
