High mileage, low price. Good buy?

whatsup everyone i've been looking for an ls for awile now with no luck at all. i recently came acroos a 2000 black on black v6 LS. the asking price is 4,900$ but with my trade in i can get it for 2 grand. only down side is the car has 143,000 miles on it. im kinda torn because i only got like 4 grand and i havent found anything near that kinda money in my area. so since all u guys probably own a ls, do you think its worth the risk taking a car with high mileage like that, or should i just keep looking? i appreciate any input, thanks

If your willing to come down to NJ NY i'm considering selling mine. Its a 2000 V6 with about 100k. Needs a couple things done but ill throw in the rims. The system i'd keep. Just throwing it out there.

Yeah save the money and keep looking, for 7500 my friend got a 2002 V8 with 63000 miles, KBB is only 6500 on mine with 65000 miles so prices are dropping fast as hell.

LS's actually have HORRIBLE depreciation value. Brand new, they are $40k cars, but now the KBB on that car your looking at is $4300 (which is less then the dealer is asking). I do advise you to get an LS, I LOVE mine! But shop around and haggle with dealers (they are in need of sells right now anyways).

I got my 2000 V8 LS with 118,000miles for $3650. Spent $160bucks on coils, $70 on new plugs (mostly because I wanted better ones), and $115 for new vavle gaskets. So I lucked out with paying a little more then HALF the kbb.

2 points.. Shop around, and HAGGLE HAGGLE HAGGLE!! This is the best time to buy!

Definitely haggle. I got my '01 LS V8 Sport with 170k and CEL on (had to replace COPs and injectors) for $2K

Save your money like NYC said. Thats very high mileage. Some have kept the car in great order with that kind of mileage but those are mostly 1 owner cars.


These cars are great looking cars and can be dealt with but after even 50k they can often become unpredictable.


FYI, my 2000 V8 Sport tops KBB at some where in the 7k$ mark. KBB states it is only a very, very small percentage that qualify for the excellent condition rating.

Keep looking, I know you can find a better deal than that.
