he has a misfire, he has replaced all the cop's and spark plugs but still has a misfire, what else is there to look at/replace?

thanks

oh and he has a 2000 V8

Fuel injector
Wiring harness/connectors
Engine compression/valves
PCM
Large vacuum leak
Towel stuck in the intake

Towel stuck in the intake
This one still cracks me up. All the input from peeps and it was this. LOL Glad he found it though.

When I worked in a quick lube we had to check air filters and I actually saw that once, I have no idea how the car was running. It was more like a wash cloth, I think maybe it was there intentionally because a couple corners were caught in the air box clips.... Not sure why the hell you'd do that but hey people still buy fender-vents too

It might be a bad plug wire!

KS

Well, there are no secondary ("plug wires") ignition wires. There are primary wires, and I count that as being in "Wiring harness/connectors."

No towels and no plug wires in a factory-equipped AJ engine. ;)
I'll have to use them with my next set of aftermarket coils.

so i guess this is an update......

he changed the fuel injectors and wasnt that, wiring harness/connectors are all good, checked compression and was good, he brought it to a shop and they told him it was the timing chain, and he had a friend who used to be a ford mechanic and he originally thought vacuum leak but now he doesn't.....

so i guess that would leave the pcm?

also the traction control light continuously flashes, what could be causing that?

You should have said that first. Fix that problem, and the "mis-fire" will probably go away. The gen I cuts cylinders to limit power when the traction control is active/messed up. It could be a wheel speed sensor.

Alright we'll check the wheel speed sensor out, any other suggestions on what else it could be? Or is that the most likely

Anything else would be wild guesses. A Ford specific code scanner should be able to pick up codes that would lead you more directly to the problem.

Do you get any codes. How di you know its missfiring if you don't have any codes? Does it have a rough idle, when under heavy acceleration does start jerking. What are the symptoms so we can help you also first thing is take a look at that traction control light or turn it off and see if it improves check the manual on how to turn it off II remember correctly you have to press the traction button for 10 seconds or some thing like that

Ok thanks again

No codes right now but the most recent code he pulled was p0307 which is a misfire on cylinder 7, plus a very rough idle and a blinking traction control light

Ok thanks again

Well then, you do have misfires and traction control problem. You may be at a point where you need to take it in and pay the diagnostic fee.

well do this. swap no 7 coil and spark plugs with no 3 and see if the code comes back if the code comes up on the same cylinder then its not the coil or spark plugs then you will need to clean the connector and add a tie wrap so secure the connectory to the coil (this happened on my 01) and then try again and if it happens again replace the fuel injector. also the traction control when does it blink. when your driving or when your idle.

Mine was doing the exact same thing..

I have a 2000 Lincoln LS V8

I recommend changing out Both timing chain tensioners if it hasnt been done..
They tend to go out in the Gen1's at about 100-120k Miles..

What happened to mine was, the timing chain tensioner was so bad that the chain actually jumped timing 1 tooth on the exhaust cam.

So my guess is if they are telling you its the chain. Its probabley the tensioner and the chain has stretched a bit if you have let it go so far. and it jumped timing.

So open up the valve cover and if the Flats of the cams are NOT lined up the same. then theres your problem. .

Noone could tell me why my lincoln ls was acting the way it was. I replaced the COP on my Cyl number 7 misfire. ( Cylinder 7 is drivers side FYI 2nd to last from the firewall) It turned out the Exhaust cam was off 1 tooth.
Runs like a top now. But since when I got my car someone let it run that way for a while.. it now has a oil pressure problem so it taps like the chain is slapping something when it is cold but once it warms up and all the noise goes away.. so check your timing!! and replace the tensioner!!

ok only current code is p0307, previous codes were p0171, c1963, c1805, and u1262

traction control light is on at all time and blinking, i dont even need to start the car for the light to be on

Did you perhaps use a generic scanner to pull the p0307 code recently, but used a better or Ford specific scanner for the previous codes?

C1963 is Stability Control Inhibit Warning
Since the light is still on, that code is still present, but it can't be pulled using a generic scanner.

C1805 Mismatched (PCM) and/or (ABS/TCS) Module
This is why the AdvanceTrac light is on. The ABS module needs to be calibrated if it is the correct one, or replaced if it is the wrong one.

U1262 Data Circuit Message: PCM Received Signal for Fault on Bus Circuit
This could just be a glitch. You need a Ford specific scanner to see if this fault is still present.

P0171 bank 1 too lean.
This and the P0307 code together along with the fact that the more common items have been checked do support (but don't make it certain) the theory that you may have a timing chain problem.

used the same scanner for all the codes

and he knows someone that has a ford specific scanner and hes going to have it scanned on sunday, so i'll update with the new codes then

so his mechanic said that it is the timing chain, and it will need to be replaced, i dont think he's going to replace it but instead will just get a new car

thanks for all the help though
