okay im new to this but i need help i have a 2003 lincoln ls v8 sport im on my third transmission since august. i got the car pretty cheap so i decided its worth it. the car had 113,000 miles but i noticed that the transmission shifted very hard from 1st to 2nd gear then seemed to skip 3rd got strait to 4th and then shift back to third then 4th and on to 5th but never slipped just crazy shift pattern. so i found a used transmission for about $1000 dollars but after the install i had the same shift pattern immediately so i had the computer reflashed but still the same issue. so after about 2,000 miles that tranny died so i decided to stop being cheap and purchased a reman jasper transmission for about $3500 installed, but it still has the same crazy shift pattern i do not no what to do i have no check engine light no codes or anything the engine runs great no issues no misses or anything it goes like hell, i dont understand why it shifts like this even if i manually shift it to thrid from 2nd it will skip it and go to forth then back to third without out further input from me then allow me to shift to fourth and fifth...... help its a 2003 ls v8 dated 04/03

You just wasted lots of money.

Thats normal shifting for this tranny.

your sure thats normal it shifts so hard it churps the tires going in to 2nd gear and the skipping of 3rd gear whats that all about

It's a performance sedan. It's supposed to shift hard.

You will know when the transmission is not right. The car will give you a check transmission error and not move. It does seem to go up and down the gears more than other cars but it learns shift points. That's why.

You're not confusing the torque converter lock-up as a shift, are you? It sure feels like one.

im not sure my dad had a gen 1 and it shifted alot smoother than my 03, maybe its just me i drove 96 deville before this i guess im spoiled by the smoothness shifts

This car is about the farthest thing with 4 doors you could find from a deville. I used to drive a 95 LTC and of course the shifts were smooth and the ride was comfortable but I would never hold the aggressive tuning and suspension against the LS. To the contrary; thats what I bought it for! :D

LOL...yeah im driving an 04 expedition cause my LS is down right now (belt slipped off) and i cant even feel it shift at all.

unless he is describing this wrong, no its not.

neither of my two, or my cousins, or the couple of guys that i have worked with's LS's have ever chirped a tire on any shift (not counting breaking loose on a good down shift) on a stock tune.

while it is a sportier car, it is still first and foremost a luxury sedan and has always shifted like one.

i could see TC lock up feeling weird and confusing someone.

I love going from my expedition to my ls.... Night and day.

Yeah.

From riding up high and taking forever to accelerate to feeling glued to the road and hauling ass.

This.

It shifts a lot firmer than any other car ive driven. It does seem to climb up and down the gears a lot. And i dont recall having chirped the tires either.

After doing the fluid, solenoid, and servos - my shifts as smooth as a 18-year-old t*t.

I'm no expert on right, but something ain't right here.

thats what im saying if i accelerate somewhat hard the car will shifts so hard into send gear the tires will loose traction and sometimes into third and this is my third tranny since october and all of them shifted identical

Perhaps, instead of spending a fortune on transmissions, you should pay the diagnostic fee to a good Lincoln or Ford dealer to find out what the problem really is.

i have taken it to ford and about 4 or 5 other places they cant seem to figure it out i have replaced the neutral safety switch/ range sensor, and throttle position sensor with no luck the only reason i got the jasper was because of the 3 year 100,000 mile warranty

ford had the car for about a week and they said it has some type of driving characteristic memory so they reset the computer but after about 2 days it started up again and i have been babying the car during that time

The adaptive learning works better if you are somewhat aggressive. If you accelerate too weakly most of the time, it will jerk you around when you do push the pedal way down.

i think your rite if i drive the car like a bat out of hell i don't notice any of these crazy shift patterns it goes through the gears precisely and firm maybe im just not used to it but i have driven a gen 1 a few times it didn't shift as hard

what about changing out the mlp sensor could this cause all of these issues i forgot to mention also if the car is cold and not warmed up at all it shifts fine but as soon as the temp hand moves it goes crazy again and that was on all three trannys.

I repeat.

On the LS, mlp = Digital Transmission Range Sensor (or TR sensor).
