Welcome to LVC, it takes hydraulic fluid (hint its a hydraulic fan) DO NOT PUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT IN THERE! Or you will cause a major expense to your wallet.

Mercon ATF, you can use the owners manual in the tech sections. Just click the cadillac in the top right hand corner.

:W

How long has that been hiding there lol!

Lol. Its been a weird button for as long as ive been a member I think. I clicked it by accident one day and have always used it since.

see because i went to a lincoln dealer today and i told them i need engine cooling fan fluid (thats exactly what it says in the owners manual) and they gave me a bottle of mercon v automatic transmission and power steering fluid..im not sure i should put that in there, then the places i called either told me they dont carry it or tried to tell me its antifreeze..so if you could please break it down for me and tell me brand and exactly what it is i would really appreciate it..

The lincoln dealer gave you the correct stuff, trans fluid and sterring is all the same. Now why wouldent you listen to them? They only designed the car.

i wasnt sure, plus i just cracked the code and realized thats what the initials were ATF..lol.. thank you very much..

Yeah never ask autozone, advance, or any of those stores questions about these cars. They truly have no clue about it most of the time. Everytime I go there I get the akward look from them not even knowing what kind of car it is, I'm sure there one if the idiots that said it was antifreeze lol.

Just leave him alone. He's got enough problems :)

For the reasons stated above if it's something I can't do, it's going to the service shop at the dealer. Now if I owned a Taurus or still owned my F150 then by all means take it somewhere else. Totally agree with talk to the service and parts people at the dealer, they know the car best, except of course for the engineers behind the beast. Someone on here said it best the people at big chain auto parts stores are just there to look stuff up on the computer, pull an active code, or offer you the best smelling air freshener. I mean they do what they're supposed to but they are not car experts. My mini rant is over, good luck on fillin' 'er back up.

It's the little things like that that keep us coming back lol.
