Hello Everyone

I've been on the site a few weeks now and thought its time to introduce myself. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. My car is a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 model. The car has been in my family since new. The car used be my mother’s car. I have driven the car many times throughout its life and has been great. I have recently started driving it alot more. The car is awesome. It has recently developed a problem. Sometimes the car won't start. You turn the key, it turns over but wont start. It seems as if the anti theft is cutting the fuel pump. The car will eventually start, but I have to try many times. Sometimes the cars starts no problem and there is no issues for days. Then the problem comes back for a few days. I’ve read some threads online and spoke to a few people. My friends are telling me it’s the ignition switch. I've got an OEM motorcraft part now and waiting for my guy to install. Hopefully that will correct the problem. Otherwise the car is great and everything work properly. Has anyone had a similar problem? I will post pics of my car soon. Thanks everyone.

Welcome -

When you say won't start can you be more specific? Is the car cranking during that time but not turning over? Or is it not even cranking?

You can rule that one out. PATS wouldn't let the starter run either.
I really doubt it will be the ignition switch.
When the last time you replaced all the coils and plugs?

Basically, I turn the key, it cranks a few times doesn't catch, then nothing. Then try again hold the key in the on position and same thing. Then what will happen is I'll hold the key in on position it will crank more times then before then start. Sorry if my explanation isn't clear. I've never seen this happen to car before. I probably should change the sparks plugs. I'm sure they haven't been done a while.

mine was a bad electrical connection to either the fuel pump or the fuel sender... Joe I cant remember exactly how the setup works... could you remind me (us) how the two pump system works.

Well, that's long and involved.
The short of it is that only the passenger side module needs power to pump. Electrical problems at the other module only effect the operation of the fuel gauge.

I would start with a check of all the relays in the trunk as well as the relay sockets. The relays and sockets under the hood should be checked too.

Also, pay attention to the PATS light when it isn't starting correctly. It can indicate some things other than actual PATS problems. The OP's statements aren't clear to me. It isn't clear to me if the starter itself is always working correctly or if it sometimes won't spin the crankshaft.

Hey LSilver, I read you are in TO, I'm just 4hrs east of you.
I also have an 01 LS V8 ... is yours also Silver Frost Metallic ?

got any pics ? ... is it the Sports model ?

When you are done messing with it and want to sell it ... keep me in mind please.

just reread everything here for the second time, try replacing the fuel filter which is in behind the drivers wheel well plastics.
It's most likely caked up with so much grim that the fuel isn't passing through it at an efficient rate.
I replaced mine and while holding it backwards, brown mud like fuel came out.

Hey Big Rig thanks for the reply. Yes mine is a sport model. It looks a lot like your Sig but with no chrome on the bumper. I will try the fuel filter. My car has been fine for a while now. I'll try and post some pics soon. Where do u live?

I'm in the farmland outskirts of the Nations capital, you know the place that has a Mayor that doesn't suck on glass pipes! ROFL, just kidding.

Mine is actually a Sports model as well, the pic in my sig is just a stock photo that was used.

I think you might also have a Silver Frost Metallic. Should possibly read Paint Code: TS on the sticker on the door jam.

PS: carefull, I'm hunting for an exact duplicate of my LS as a parts car!
